why do I need this again? So you can copy all those 8-tracks onto the Ipod and will no longer need the haul the 8-track player that looks like a suitcase around with you!!

You don't. But if you're ever in the market for a portable mp3 player, the iPod is about as good as it gets, especially if you want music that isn't in your CD collection. Just load up iTunes and shell out the 99 cents.
