I'm willing to be the techinical staff over there is playing around with their equipment to see if they can match CNN's X.

They were doing it on purpose. Fox & Friends is Fox's news show that allow the anchors to get a little goofy. They had the "X" growing and shrinking and moving it around. Having a good laugh at CNN's expense 'cause they knew the flak would last for a while.
Wasn't that what Bill Clinton got in trouble for: playing with someone else's equipment??
