What can one say. His fiancee was at the game and was escorted across the ice by Brendan Shanahan.

Prayers for him. Hockey is secondary at this point.

What is it with athletes dropping these days? Jason Collier, a Center for the Atlanta Hawks (and he was from Springfield, OHio too) had a similar heart issue and died from it a month or so ago.

Detroit Lions WR Chuck Hughes collapsed and died on the field back in October of 1971...maybe it's just Detroit?

dunno....

there's something....

Apparently Fischer has been diagnosed with an abnormally thick heart.

Some of the other players have been diagnosed with abnormally LARGE hearts which end up causing an arrhythmia....makes me wonder....

Mike..thanks for this ping. I'll put it out to the Hockey Ping list when I'm back on my laptop in the AM, unless airborne beats me to it.

This is just part of the reason that Shanny wears the "A". IMNSHO, when Yzerman calls it a career, if Shanny is still wearing the winged-wheel, he should get the "C".

My best friend from HS died with an enlarged heart. He played on Notre Dame's National Championship team and died the night after meeting President Reagan at the White House.....He was dancing, when he grabbed his chest and died on the dance floor.

He had had arrhythmia, and the coroner ruled one part of the heart was bigger than the other.

yeah...

there has to be a way to test for that.......

its sad.

If Jiri would have had this at home instead of at the rink, things might be very very different right now.

They had a good story on this in the Tennessean this morning:

http://www.tennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20051122/SPORTS02/511220362/1028

As usual, I can't excerpt because it's a Gannet paper. The doctor that performed CPR is a hero.

The Preds, of course, will finish the butt-kicking when the game is rescheduled. ;)

I've got the Center Ice package and turned on my TV last night to watch the game during what I thought would be the early portion of the game before the Vikings/Packers game.

All I can say is that the response from the Wings bench and doctors was exemplary. All involved have reason to be quite proud. Best to the young man and his family.
