It could get worse, and I suspect it will, too. This Romeo and Juliet could have driven off into the sunset and disappeared without murdering anyone. Runaways disappear all the time. They didn't have to murder her parents, that was his choice and hers. The news today is that she ran out of the house after him, knowing her parents had been murdered by him. I'm guessing they really didn't plan it out well - which I think they would have done if it had been more about running away - they drove the same stolen vehicle west on I-80, apparently making ATM and credit card purchases, leaving a trail. It makes me think their plan was more about explosive and murderous anger against her parents than it was about running away and starting a new life.

maybe she is pregnant.

Oh, that would help explain their actions. Yikes.

And if it could get much worse- IMO-that is horrible news

Me to, but at 14 she is a child and can be influenced.

I sure wouldn't want to be the relative taking care of this girl.

The fact that she left her parents to die is all I need to know. For me, Ludwig's "influence" stopped when she knew her parents were shot, bleeding, dying. She probably had to step over her dad to get out of the house. This girl was raised with morals and values. At 14 she knew the difference between right and wrong. All her fooling around with this kid I could forgive. But not willingly leaving them to die.

Pregnant? I wouldn't doubt it and it will be hushed up just like everything else was in this community.

Also interesting that both built their elaborate fantasy castles on ruin and devastation.
"Hohenschwangau -- Prince Maximilian acquired the castle in 1832 which had been in ruins 700 years. He decided to create a fairy tale castle and as fantastic and picturesque as possible, with decorative towers and turrets, oreils, portals, balconies, pillars, crenellated parapets.

It was so enchanting that when the King's father, Ludwig I, saw it for the first time in 1844, he cried out in amazement, "Hohenschwangau is truly a fairy tale castle" Here in the castle Ludwig found fuel for his mediaeval fantasies. "

Enter "elaborate fantasy castles", find the recesses of an teen's brain.

She's just as guilty as he is if she knew what was coming down.

I think you are right. I think they are both bewildered by their own depravity and loss. I think Ludwig expects the death penalty. This was a case of suicide by murder.

IMO_14 is old enough to know murder is wrong and it is forever and carries heavy consequences. My 6 year old knows that. I haven't followed the story BUT-I have a feeling we are looking at some mentally challenged kids.

I think they killed her parents because they wanted to "show" them who was in charge, not so they could run away together. Of course they could have run away without killing anyone, but there seemed to be a lot of rage over who got to call the shots in the household.

From the time I saw her picture on teevee, I had a hunch she was at the very least a willing participant--at worst, completely in on it. But I bet she can turn on the tears when the occasion calls for it--like at trial...

This is why I think Kara was in on it. I think that in her mind, getting her parents out of the picture was the primary motive--she wanted to do what she wanted to do, without anyone telling her not to. Leaving with young Lothario was only part of the reason.

A hundred years ago, many 14-year old girls were married and pregnant.

Eloping? Well, maybe that's what drew you to this story. They could have eloped without killing anyone. In my opinion, eloping wasn't even the main motive for these murders. It was about control--her parents tried to exert it, and Kara was determined to show them who was boss. This guy was just the means to that end.

How many years ago was it that another Borden, one Lizzie Borden, took an axe and gave her parents (reportedly) 40 whacks with it? It's not about marriage or babies. It's about evil.

If I were the relative taking care of this girl, I'd sure sleep with one eye open.

And not. Likewise, most boys were out of school and working.

It's about the fact that 14-year old are physically mature, and capable of doing most of the things, good and evil, a 21-year old can do.

I think you are right. I think they are both bewildered by their own depravity and loss.

Yes, it seems the 'run away and start a new life' was kind of an afterthought, a panic to their actions. I'm not sure the reality of what they've done, since they fled immediately, has really sunk in for them. Or has it and they are simply filled with that much hate toward her parents? Ironically, had they bothered to think it through, they might have gathered up cash and simply run away together as many have tried and some succeeded, without murdering anyone.

I think Ludwig expects the death penalty. This was a case of suicide by murder.

I think you're right, too. He does seem remarkably calm and nonplussed by his actions. So much for the new life with his girlfriend. I think you've hit it, suicide courtesy of the state.
