Two separate reports, one from my Dad and one from a friend... both at Tacoma Mall. Not being allowed inside, due to "someone inside with a semiautomatic shooting in the mall".
Large number of police on the scene, sealing the exits. Not letting anyone in or out.
Will post a source as soon as I have one.
3:29 p.m. Police say they are actively trying to make contact with the gunman inside the store to find out what he wants. He said that contact with the suspect had been intermittent, in part because members of the media had been calling in to the store and tying up the line. The Associated Press earlier made contact with an employee inside the store who said he was being held hostage.
Unbelievable.
Have you heard ~anything~ about motive?
I only wish I could be in peace mode.
That explains my husband, I guess. He grew up in a few bad (Tacoma) neighborhoods. Where his mom still lives in the Eastside is where the DC Sniper shot his Tacoma victim. (Plus, his parents were involved in drugs and with sketchy people when he was a kid.) He's always aware of everything in his surroundings and picks up details I don't (and I am more aware than many are.)
My dog brought it to my attention.
Remember, Horatio. Mine shoots balls!
Niether do I...
This is my rifle...this is my gun....this is for fighting..this is ......
Please explain/elaborate.
OK, thanks for the explanation.
Good! Smart move. I used to work in a mall when I was in college. This is the best thing the storeowners can do or could have done in this case.
Story on MSNBC this morning included some more information about motive... apparently he sent his ex-girlfriend a text message: "today the world will feel my pain".
I think his intent was mayhem and maybe suicide.
Only in that that is where they obtained the rifle. The older guy was (I think) originally from Baton Rouge, La. and the youger one was a "furriner" from one of the Caribbean Islands (Puerto Rico/Dominican Repub.??).
As I recall, the older one married the younger one's mother and got her to the states, where she left him and ended up in or around Tacoma. He followed her up (stalking), and got the younger guy to join him.
There are also strong indications that there was some "Muslim theology" involved.
The mom was Jamaican... right? I do remember some Muslim references at the time... but that was quickly hushed-up.
She (the ex) may have been in Tacoma too at some point, but she ended up in the DC area, that's why the shooting spree was there. The plan may have been to kill her, and the other victims were just to hide her murder in the others and make it look random.
Your home town had more than one bar?? Gee, a pretty big place, sounds like. I'll bet you probably even had a traffic light??
My home town only had one (bar that is), and no light. We "did" have "Stop" sign, though.
She was certainly in Tacoma for some time. I think her sister or good friend (or both)were also there, and it was she who had custody of Malvo (the young shooter). The older shooter (something "Muhammad") killed one of them while in Tacoma (I forget which one). As I recall, authorities think he also killed one or more women in Baton Rouge, as well.
Well... looks like my gang theory is blown. Looks like the "teen angst" gambit. Loser who thinks the world must "feel his pain", yada yada yada...
Plenty of self-esteem, at any rate. Only somebody pretty arrogant thinks that the world should be interested in his pain in the first place.
