There is another possibility. What if the President thinks it is going well enough in Iraq that he will be able to pull troops out in 2006. Surely the Democrats can extrapolate the progress in Iraq and think we will be drawing down next year too.  This all might be a stunt to get out in front of this withdrawal and make the public think it was their idea and to maybe paint the GOP into a position of keeping troops there longer than necessary in order to have a difference to campaign upon.

Then again, I may have wrapped my tin foil too tightly this morning.

The troops, significant numbers of them, were probably going to come home ANYWAY in '06...the elections have been going very well, and the Iraqi troops are getting better.

The 'rats are just posturing themselves, and it is pretty transparent.
