We are not far behind, in fact we led the pack!

Lyndon Johnson instituted affirmative action in the mid-60s in federal programs, and Richard Nixon institutionalized it soon after.

In the dim recesses of my mind I recall a directive of Jimmy Carter's ordering that, in the interests of saving money, some governmental agencies were directed to fire all incompetents, "except women and minorities"!

I graduated college into the disaster that was the Carter maladministration. Despite a very good score on the civil service test, I couldn't even get an interview.

It wasn't that I was interviewing poorly or wasn't qualified; they just weren't hiring white males.

The corporation my husband works for seemingly refuses to promote white males with college degrees into general manager positions. Instead, their current focus are females w/o a college degree, and very little managerial experience. It's corporate wide..not just in our area. Wrong. Wrong for ethics as well as the future of the corp. imho.

In addition...the white males with college degrees are subordinate to the uneducated female general managers...and are the ones running the show to *make* the uneducated female general managers succeed, per orders from the top. Sumpin wrong here?

Wrong in every sense of that word with which I am acquainted.

I brightly quoth to my liberal spouse as to the fact, there was a mrs tiggywinkle on FR. Oh, says she- "it's one of the Beatrix Potter stories". Always learning, me.

The main point though, is of a television commercial. I cannot quite pin it. Two executive type youngish people are confering. The female says to the male- "Oh, as to this particular task, YOU can handle it. After all, there are things YOU can do- better than me".

The young male walks away like he is on cloud nine. The commercial starts to cut away and a voice says " It is nice when your boss gives you the credit". Or words to that effect. The commercial gives the impression at first, the man is the boss- clever indeed. Thank heaven this is not done with brain surgeons- cos', male or female, one would want the very, very, best? Even a feminist. LOL.
