As an atheist who has frequently butted heads with conservative Christians here for 7 years, I dont think Ive ever been told or even ever read that I cannot be a moral person. Many claim I cant define morality, but none have said I couldnt be moral.
This guys a kook.
More likely the guy is kicking off some fund raising campaign, mining the fields of the moneyed paranoid.
I've been interested for some time in the differences as to how morality is defined. I believe that Islam, for instance, has no independent morality. Giving to charity, being nice to people, not killing them, well that's fine on its own, but if it's not in the name of Islam, it's really not moral. The Judeo-Christian view separates morality from religious identity and even from religious practice. It's so ingrained in the Western point of view, that we don't even notice cultures that don't recognize it.
Evangelicals believe salvation depends on acceptance of Jesus Christ as our Saviour, and is not at all based on morality. Acceptance of Christ and his offer of salvation means all our sins, past and future, are forgiven.
Of course we're expected to repent, but a true evangelical cannot judge the morality of someone else.
Jesus loves both of you.
