Standing at the head of the runway at Memphis International Airport at two o'clock in the morning, it's impossible not to be impressed. Planes roar overhead at a rate of one every 90 seconds. The night sky is filled with a perfect line of lights as an almost military formation of planes dip towards the tarmac ready to disgorge their cargo from all over America, Europe and the world.
Fedex Fedex has developed into a $30billion corporation
You can almost hear The Ride of the Valkyries.

Good for Smith. Wish they would privatize the US postal service and put this guy in charge..or maybe another marine.
Fed Ex rules. I have a reef/coral tank and they transport me livestock from CA to OH in less than 15 hours.

An example of a truly creative and very important business leader who 99% of our so-called intellectuals never heard of.
Another was McLean, who invented compartmentalized shipping, a great contribution to world trade.

You guys really should see it. Around midnight, you can see the planes on approach for 25 miles, waiting to come in. They are on double approach, utilizing both runways, with 2 going out. It's much more impressive than at 5pm, when they are stacked 15-20 deep to take off.
I work around the corner from FDX and get to watch it every night.

And FDX makes a killing off of it to transport their mail.
But watching the birds come in is a sight to see.

And years ago..United Airlines Management sold them the airplanes to grow their business because United's management didn't see any future in overnight airfreight. Wonder why UAL is in bancruptcy??? Does the term "STUPID MANAGMENT come to mind?

Well, you should have that wonderful noise of jet engines wake you up and shake your home every night for 30 years. Great place to work for, great place to be a loog way from.
