He's really good.
Just remembered his last name. Adrian Pasdar.
I like the outrageous, convoluted storyline of DH sometimes.
We only watch it when Goran and Eames aren't featured on L&O Criminal Intent.

I respect the guy for his work, he's made some great movies, and seems to honor his craft, instead of simply sleepwalking his way through cookie-cutter parts, like his peers. When i heard he was cast in "Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas" I was EXTREMELY skeptical (as a closet Hunter S. Thomson fan - the man was insane, but BOY what a ride his books are!), but seeing the movie, he won me over.

Yes, he's put his foot in his mouth, what actor or actress has'nt? They're ACTORS. They are not bestowed with all-knowing knowledge and wisdom when they get their SAG cards, even though most think they do. Most of them never graduated from high school, let alone college - it's one of few professions where high school dropouts can make millions of dollars.

So, I judge him by his work. He's done great work. Some not so great - the new Willy Wonka is HORRIBLE. I love Tim Burton's stuff, but this one failed in so many ways - the only good thing was the sets. Depp's characterization in the movie of Willie Wonka as a fey, mugging, smart-alec simply failed - Gene Wilder's protrayal was inspired and more accurate to the books. But the other movies on his resume are full of HUGE chops: Pirates, Once Upon A time In Mexica, Blow, Fear And Loathing, From Hell, Finding Neverland (VERY good), Chocolat, Ed Wood, Sleepy Hollow...if he's in a movie, I'll check it out, simply on his name alone.

As to his leaving France, I wonder if it has anything to do with a story I heard, about his involvement in a lawsuit over the Viper Room, which he was part owner. One of the parties in the suit, one of Depp's partners, either disapeared or was killed, I forget which, and Depp fled the country afterwards. I don't remember the specifics, all i remember is being told by people who knew all the parties involved Depp was not accused of anything, but might have knowledge, out of fear more than anything. I don't know, I don't remember, but I know his leaving for France was around the time this was happening, and it looked suspicious. It could be the usual Hollywood gossip, but I dimply remember a few articles were written, and the people who told me are usually credible.

I've never watched it! I want to get the entire first season on DVD and watch that first so I at least know what's going on. HOWEVER, I did read yesterday where they fired the black guy who played the guy who lived in the basement or something? Do you know who I'm talking about? Apparently he liked to FLASH (As in wave his wanker) at the female stars on the show!!!!!! Kind of weird, eh?

Are you talking about the death of River Phoenix?

You forgot two of my all time favorites: Donnie Brasco and What's Eating Gilbert Grape.

So THAT's why they retouched him all blurry and dark in the last episode. I did hear he was being replaced, but didn't know why. Just caught the tail end of an interview with Alfre Woodard, who plays his mom.

As if there's not enough scandal on Wysteria Lane...

What's Eating Gilbert Grape

Ooo great reminder-- that was the BEST.
What a cast -- Juliette Lewis & young Leonardo DiCaprio...

Depp's coming back because he heard that the U.S. is more advanced in Penile Transplant Surgery than France is.

Leonardo DiCaprio was so brilliant in that role. I have an autistic nephew and he had every single mannerism down it was almost scary. I don't think he has ever been better than he was in that movie. Juliette Lewis I could live without. Depp's understated performance in that film was beautiful.

Totally agree.

Juliette Lewis I could live without.

Really? I thought she was so compassionate, esp. meeting the mom.
I liked her best in Cape Fear.

Depp's understated performance in that film was beautiful.

Perfect description.

Well said. It doesn't look like Depp's an especially political person, just another uneducated actor mouthing off. He's wrong about some things and a bit of a fool, but he's not actively promoting any cause or point of view, just hot for a French chick.

He's something like the late Hunter S. Thompson, whom he played. Some complained about Thompson for being a bad influence. Undoubtedly he was. Living like Hunter Thompson would be a mistake, but the attacks were overdone. Every age has its profligates and buffoons, and yet the world goes on, not much the worse for their follies. Thompson did bring entertainment to many and undoubtedly hurt himself most.

Now, now, didn't 50 Cent say that the shooting had absolutely nothing to do with his movie.

I saw the 50 Cent movie last night. I liked it. Contrary to knee jerk reactionary critics (not you) who never saw the movie, it didn't glorify violence but showed it to be a one way street to a very bleak existence.

Thanks for that information, Jeff. Good to know that some people can be objective.

Now I'll watch it when it gets to HBO.

Depp and Paradis moved to France to bring up their children because he said LA was too violent.

"Well...isn't that...special???"

I think the movie is very similar to Boyz in the Hood. That movie also got a lot of bad press about glorifying gangster life and violence in general when in reality it vilified it.

Like Boyz in the Hood, Get Rich or Die Tryin is probably not a good fit for an older or very social conservative crowd. There is a lot of profanity and some senseless violence but that is pretty much the point the movie is trying to get across - the profanity is part of the culture and violence is indeed senseless.

It's a lot like Richard Pryor when we were growing up; people were so busy griping about the words he used that they missed what he was saying; turns out he was mostly right.

I still laugh every time I think about Tommy Davidson in Booty Call, wrapped in all that saran wrap.

Have you ever seen Hollywood Shuffle?
