Republican lawmakers say that ties between Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.) and his brother's lobbying firm, KSA Consulting, may warrant investigation by the House ethics committee...
According to a June 13 article in The Los Angeles Times, the fiscal 2005 defense appropriations bill included more than $20 million in funding for at least 10 companies for whom KSA lobbied. Carmen Scialabba, a longtime Murtha aide, works at KSA as well.
KSA directly lobbied Murtha's office on behalf of seven companies, and a Murtha aide told a defense contractor that it should retain KSA to represent it, according to the LA Times.
In early 2004, Murtha reportedly leaned on U.S. Navy officials to sign a contract to transfer the Hunters Point Shipyard to the city of San Francisco, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. A company called Lennar Inc. had right to the land, and Laurence Pelosi, nephew to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), was an executive with the firm at that time.
Murtha also inserted earmarks in defense bills that steered millions of dollars in federal research funds toward companies owned by children of fellow Pennsylvania Rep. Paul Kanjorski (D).

Outstanding. Go after this Rat.
His public pronouncements about the war may have been a little profile-raising effort so that the ethics charges would look like "political pay-back"!
We should let the attacks on DeLay, UNFOUNDED ATTACKS, remain as legitimate, but questions about Murtha are not good?
who cares.
Exactly. I would change 'May' to 'Probably'.
My brother is a Mason, and I always tease him about being part of a cult that's stockpiling weapons to take over the world.
Murtha is a crook. What a suprise a congressman who is a crook.
Republicans have Duke Cunningham and Democrats have Murtha.
Not that I think attacking Murtha personally is worth anything - but don't you think that if he were a Republican that the media would at least mention that he was listed as an unindicted co-conspirator in ABSCAM? Instead, they have made him St. Demwarhawk. NOT ONE MENTION OF IT in any article about Murtha the past few days. That is odd....

Culture of corruption! ;)
Wow. You could knock me over with a feather.
Do my eyes deceive me? Has the GOP actually started growing a spine? First the House challenge to vote up or down on pulling troops out of Iraq, and now this.
I agree. In my eight short years in the Army I made a few acquaintances like Murtha, both enlisted and officer. They are known as "Empire Builders" and they learn to game the system for all that they can get out of it. What little I read about Murtha, I learned that he enlisted in the Marine Corps during Korea. Many, many of the Korea "lifers" would have mustered out of the service in the '60's, had it not been for Vietnam. This situation gave the Empire Builders another chance to prosper and rise within the military services.
By the end of the draft and America's involvement in Vietnam, there were more senior NCO's and light colonels in the rifle services than there were privates and corporals. When the Empire Builders finally retired with an extra 10 to 15 years punched on their retirement tickets, provided by Vietnam, the entered the public and private sector to practice their trade that they polished in the service. I can't state that Murtha is categorically one of them, but he has all the history and personality attributes of an "Empire Builder". His history merits that Congress "follows the money".
I had been thinking that Hillary's stash of FBI files was proving useful to the DemocRATS and that they had blackmailed Murtha. That still could be the case. However, maybe the Republicans have a stash of their own. Either way, Murtha is wrong and needs to sit down and shut up.

It's just hard for me to get past this.."House ethics committee..."
Like I said, I think Murtha is an Empire Builder. They smell out the opportunity and slither out if they get caught.
That sounds like DemocRAT blackmail. Why should Reps let them set the agenda. After all, we are in the majority. I say go forward with the ethics investigation.
It appears that the GOP is fighting back, but don't get your hopes up. They've made a big noise about the illegal things the RATS have done in the past, but they NEVER follow through. When they follow this through and he gets removed from office or prosecuted, THEN I'll be excited.
PAYBACK IS A MURTHAf****r!
