"Since the FBI found Murtha involved in ABSCAM, I wonder why they never indicted him?"

Maybe he ratted someone out and they gave him a pass.

The big news was her statement, not her retraction. The damage has already been done.

Right. She caused the Dems to completely lose their lunch.

We should all send a note to her telling her we stand with her. She hasn't been in Congress very long and seemed taken aback when the point of order was made to strike her remarks.

E-mail Jean Schmidt

She was merely quoting a Marine who wrote her and said of Democratic appeaesment "Cowards cut and run. Marines finish the job." Why on earth would she be made to apologize for this?

It's because many took it as an attack on Murtha's military service .. which it wasn't

But if you really think about it .. the comment is correct ...

Only cowards do cut and run

And Murtha who is a Marine voted AGAINST the resolution to cut and run

Now why Murtha held that presser suggesting we leave immediately ???

You'll have to ask him .. because that vote he made says he doesn't agree with what he proposed

I believe he's under investigation for some shady business in PA and this is a cover so that he can say that the Republicans are picking on him.

The RATS and press will join the band wagon to make the Republicans look like they go after anyone who is against them - thereby making him look like an innocent victim.

She's been in politics for decades. I wouldn't exactly classify her as a neophyte.

Why is it wrong to quote a Marine

Not sure about Marines, but I quoted an Army Drill Sgt at my mothers dinner table back in 71 and had to apologize real quick. I was bigger, meaner and just home from boot camp but she was in command. ;-)

Just one problem for the Rats ... Many pubbies on the House Floor last night gave Murtha's great praises for his military service

Curt Weldon even praised his devotion and visits to the soldiers that were wounded

They just disagree with cutting and running

And apparently Murtha agrees with the pubbies because he voted against what he proposed

They obviously took him at his word. Most of the letters he read where all about himself and how great he is!

So next time a democrat quotes one of the unwashed masses (which includes most of their constituency...I live in a blue state) then the republicans are allowed to have any quote stricken from the record that they don't like as well.

Sorry Michael Moore...no more lies will be allowed to be quoted from your movies...better hang it up.

It was disgusting watching the Dems go ballistic over the Marine's statement. It is unfortunate that his words do not get to live in perpetuity in the Congressional Record. He deserves at least that. But in the end, justice was served. The words may have been stricken but last night and today the news shows have repeatedly shown her statement including the rediculous response of the Dems.

You're right, Buckeye. I apologize. Look on the bright side though. She had the guts to say what she did. Maybe she'll be stronger now that she's in the House. One can hope. Meanwhile, Clinton and Schumer are "my" Senators and the Rep. is a Dem named Bishop. Troubles? Yikes. Woe is me.

Unparliamentary language always has to be withdrawn, in a custom going back centuries.

In the begining, it was because allowing it to stand could lead to violence in the House.

I believe rules forbid congressmen/women from directing remarks personally to one another, naming them in fact. She did mention Murtha's name and then said it was for all, but that's the mistake she made. She should simply have put the letter or whatever on the record without mentioning Murtha by name or where he was from, etc.. But in the heat of the moment, it's understandable...and she's new. Plus, this way, she generated even more publicity for her remarks.

I haven't been able to find out but anyone knows how he voted in 1975 to support the South Vietnamese?
.............................
Here's what I found: According to a USAToday profile of Murtha, printed prior to the 2004 election, his time in Vietnam was spent in a Mass. based unit of SAG. He was elected to the House in a very close special election in 1974 and was the first Vietnam vet to serve in the House. Once there, he was a "favorite of the Tip O'Neill and extremely loyal to the Democrat leadership."

http://asp.usatoday.com/news/politicselections/CandidateProfile.aspx?ci=462&oi=H

On Feb 27 1975, he arrived in Vietnam with a bi-partisan House delegation, to determine if the $522 million requested by President Ford to fund the war was "appropriate". This is according to a document called "Vietnam: Cease Fire to Capitulation". A chilling reminder of what can happen when the cowardly politians take over. It can be found here:

http:libraryautomation.com/nymas/Vietnamfulltext3.html.

Given the outcome of the Vietnam War, we can guess what these rats reported .
In light of his connection with Mass. and his ties to O'Neill and what I have seen regarding his "decorations" and this last display of heroism, I'd say he's a SOB and has been one for some time now.
