What is the wording of the motion? Because the C-Span1 headline just now was: 'Republicans seek disapproval of Iraq pullout'

Unfortunately, I joined the thread after that information had been shared - and I didn't go back yet to reread it. But they are saying it is being driven by J.D.Heyworth - who said let's have the votes put on record for supporting the troops. God bless J.D. Heyworth.

Somebody will fill us in. They are going to have debate and then the vote so if we don't have anything else to do tonight, we should be able to decipher it from the cspan telecast.

What is the wording of the motion? Because the C-Span1 headline just now was: 'Republicans seek disapproval of Iraq pullout'

"Resolved, That is is the sense of the House of Representatives that the deployment of United States forces in Iraq be terminated immediately."

The resolution was introduced by a Republican, and is being peddled as accurately representing the sentiment of DEM Rep. Murtha. The Rep. who introduced the resolution, Hunter, announced that he would be voting against it.

Here is the conclusion of Murtha's position. It can be compared with the above resolution.

I believe before the Iraqi elections, scheduled for mid December, the Iraqi people and the emerging government must be put on notice that the United States will immediately redeploy. All of Iraq must know that Iraq is free. Free from United States occupation. I believe this will send a signal to the Sunnis to join the political process for the good of a free Iraq.

My plan calls:

To immediately redeploy U.S. troops consistent with the safety of U.S. forces.
To create a quick reaction force in the region.
To create an over- the- horizon presence of Marines.
To diplomatically pursue security and stability in Iraq

The Honorable John P. Murtha - November 17, 2005
