MURTHA: I have a letter/email from a parent/grandparent/wife/sister/brother of a wounded/maimed/blinded/amputated veteran (all from Iraq, not Afghanistan). The letters reads: Rep. Murtha, you are great. There is no plan, Bush lied, and he didn't provide enough body armor. Mr. Murtha, you are so wise and great.
In consideration of all of the foregoing, and the fact that we are the enemy, I'm going to urge my esteemed colleagues to vote against the very proposition I advocated yesterday as quoted in the NY Times, Washington Post, and Hardball.
I yield the balance of 15 minutes of fame.

I just called Murtha's office and I asked his telephone jockey how the vote went. She sounded pissed that it lost. She pointed out it wasn't his bill (duh), when I told her that he was wrong and needed to shut up she PROMISED to let him know....hahahahahahahaha. You bet. Can't imagine I was her only caller....

I don't mind a bit of collegiality towards the opposition. Who knows what sort of back-room deals transpire in terms of vote swapping and "my esteemed colleague" BS. It's not for me, but I can understand how it is the grease that permits things to happen in the legislative body.
But, you are right, his slam on the White House was over the line.
I might actually tune into the "Sunday Talk Shows" for a change this weekend....to watch them all explain away, and away, and away, and away.
But - come Monday - their talking points will be in order and Anderson ("I never sucked one! - well, not twice anyhow") Cooper, Chrissie Mathews, etc. will begin digging their way out of the hole.

You're right. The RAT spin machine will screech, "it wasn't our resolution!" I expect that we will hear that line several hundred times from every RAT hack this weekend. We'll be fighting this all weekend, but we won the first round...all we have to do is show how they are identical.
Of course it was ploy and it worked.
