It's worse than you think. There's a lot going on in curriculum development in colleges that would have parents protesting--if they knew about it. There's a move underfoot to standardize all curriculum in all colleges. It's being driven by Education Testing Services out of Princeton (the people who run the SAT). They are in cahoots with the Mid-Atlantic accreditation group (I forget the exact name) and they are forcing colleges and universities to restructure their curriculum to an outcomes-based format. These schools have been hiring personnel to get this program into place. If they don't, they will not receive their accreditation. It's scarier than you know.
From what I understand, accreditation is a joke anyway. To get accreditation, a school sets their own goals. When they demonstrate that they meet their own goals, however lowly or lofty, the are accredited. That's how it used to be anyway.
