Pre-War "containment" of Iraq was not successful.1. The oil-for-food program was corrupt.
2. The weapons inspections were a farce.
3. US planes were being targeted.*
4. Uninspected flights to Baghdad made the sanctions pointless.
5. Terrorists were training in Iraq.
6. Saddam's brutality brought suffering and death to thousands of our fellow human beings.
Saddam was thumbing his nose at the world as he enriched those who were willing to collaborate with him.
*CNN,September 11, 1996
Over the past six days, Iraq claimed it repeatedly fired on warplanes over the "no-fly zone," but the U.S. previously said it detected no fire. Last week, President Saddam Hussein announced he would no longer honor the no-fly zones and ordered his forces to shoot at U.S. and allied aircraft. Tuesday, the United States said it was considering a possible new strike against Iraq based on growing evidence that Baghdad is repairing military installations damaged by U.S. missiles last week.

I'd still like a for-the-record response from her on what Bubba said in Dubai. To get your wish would first require we get my wish - for an objective media.

EX-Marine as in EX-communicated.
My guess is he won't be guarding heaven's scene like the rest of the EX-Marines
Oswald, Garwood, Ritter, Kovic, Massey, Josh Rushing, and that mincing little sun flower that carries around Cincy Sheehan's cape

Lat night Leno made an interesting observation. "From the beginning the Dems have been so critical of Bush's lack of intelligience and how dumb W is. Now, they are complaining how Bush tricked them into the war, which should speak to how smart THEY are.

Congressman Murtha has worked hard to bring thousands of long-term, family-sustaining jobs to Western Pennsylvania. With the disappearance of the coal and steel jobs that for more than a century were the lifeblood of the area, he pushed the region in a new direction, intent on diversifying the economy to help insulate it from future shocks. In the early 1990s, new companies in an industry unfamiliar in Western Pennsylvania - defense - began to spring up, bringing more than 5,000 jobs to the district he represents. He founded the House Steel Caucus and has brought millions of dollars to the United Mine Workers to retrain displaced miners and train new miners. The above is from his web site. He represents the defeated, rotting industrial heart of Pennsylvania. Losing is an attitude. What pet pork project did his district not get? Who in the administration pissed off this old crying man? There has to be something really interesting to this flip flop.

He's right, and that is just another and yet more embarrassing proof that they forever equivocate on what is basic. I guess you can ONLY equivocate and remain unfocused if you insist on having things both ways. When this becomes crystal clear to the DNC leadership and when they abandon their childish need to pander to all and sundry of the disaffected and uninformed in this country, they may once again become a viable alternative in American politics and be a party worthy of support. (In the process, they may regain the appearance of AMERICANS as well)

Has a single democrat even tried to argue that the war is going WORSE today than it was a year ago, that things are WORSE today than they were a year ago, or that there is absolutely NO progress being made?
They seem to only argue that we haven't WON yet, and time has expired.
BTW, I beginning to see that this is Vietnam. Democrats for years support a war being fought the wrong way by a president of their party. The other party takes over, makes it into a real war, the democrats want power back, undercut the war to take out the president, and turn america against the troops.
Vietnam had John Kerry and other soldiers coming back and lying about atrocities, we have Massey (and I imagine some others).
Of course, the number of dead is less than a tenth of what it was in vietnam, but the democrat's stomach for losses is non-existant. A decorated marine was blubbering over the tragic loss of life, when we haven't even had as many troops killed and wounded yet than civilians who were killed and wounded in the 9/11 attacks against us.
Now they want to duplicate the infamous withdrawal. And when they are done, we will get ANOTHER vietnam-like result, as Israel is destroyed as cambodia was. Only when ressurected, it will be a palistinian state, an official country born NOT from the ideals of freedom and democracy, but from terrorism and intimidation and surrender.
And THAT is a lesson the rest of the world will not forget. We haven't put to death the ghosts of vietnam yet, and if the Democrats have their way, we never will.

Will Al Qaida use the words of Clinton, Murtha, Reid etc as a barometer to increase attacks in IRAQ? To possibly strike now on US soil? Is there a better time for Al Quaida to strike long and deep?

Here is a letter I sent to my congressman calling for an immediate house vote on the "murtha plan" to dispell any hope our enemies have that we will vote to cut-and-run:
Honorable Congressman Davis,
This is a grave day for our troops. Already we see e-mails from the field speaking about demoralization, dejection, and defeat. This is NOT because of what is happening in Iraq, the troops are still winning there.
No, it is because they see their elected leaders cutting the legs out from under them. They see their victory at war, bought at great cost to themselves and their compatriots, turned into a defeat by those in washington who are either scared of public opinion, or worse want nothing more than to take back control of the reigns of power, and don't care who they sacrifice to do so.
Our troops, our allies, and our enemies now see a "respected high-ranking democrat" calling for immediate and unconditional surrender. And they don't know how widespread that feeling is, but it gives our enemies hope that congress will vote to do so soon.
We must dash the hopes of our enemies, and rekindle the enthusiasm of our troops. My recommendation is that the House immediately schedule a vote on the "Murtha Plan". Our allies and enemies alike must see that the United States REJECTS Murtha's plan for capitulation. They won't see that unless a VOTE is held to repudiate it.
And after the vote, Murtha must be persuaded to withdrawal his recommendation or resign from the house. So long as a person in the house is in direct conflict with the stated goals of the government, and cannot support the efforts of the troops in a time of war, it will give our enemies hope that he will eventually persuade his colleagues.
But he can't be "forced out". He needs good, respected members of the house, the senate, and the military (preferably all military men) to sit down with him and explain what is best for the troops. I believe Murtha is an honorable but misguided man, who can be persuaded to do the right thing for our troops in a time of war.
But regardless of that, it is imperative that the house get ON RECORD now rejecting Murtha's plan. And if a majority of the democrats support that plan, it is very important that we get them on record now, so there is plenty of time for true patriots in their own party to rise up with primary opponents who will support our troops, not cut and run when the war has gone on too long.
I note that nobody seems to claim that things are getting WORSE for our troops, for Iraq, or for the war. IN fact, things are getting better. The democrat complaint is that it isn't moving FAST ENOUGH for them. Cynically, I believe their real fear is that it IS moving too fast, and that if they don't do something now to undermine the troops and embolden our enemies, Iraq might truly BE stable before the next election, our troops might be returning home victorious, and their 3-year strategy of turning the nation against the war to win election will have backfired.
