You're thinking along the same lines as I am. I don't trust Woodward, and I don't trust his motives in coming out at this particular time with this story.
Woodward was forced to come out, his confidential source went to fitzgerald and voluntered the information that he spoke with Woodward . Fitzgerald then called Woodward to testify.
The reason that Woodward came forward and testified is because his source (not Rove or Libby) contacted Fitzgerald after the presser and told him. Fitzgerald then called Woodward in. Otherwise, he would have just sat silent....
I recall Woodward's "interview" of John Casey while Casey lay dieing. Woodward quoted all sorts of admissions from Casey. all were damaging to th Republicans.
Casey's family, though, said that a family member was with Casey every minute that Woodward claimed to be there and saw no sign of Woodward. Besides, Casey was in a coma, had been for days, and then died in this same coma. Casey could neither talk nor think.
Woodward is setting up an elaborate lie.
I don't particularly trust him either, but if you look at DU they are ready to string him up.
I don't think Woodward came out with the story on his own. I recall that his source in the administration told Fitz that he told Woodward.
Woodward was outed by his source in the administration. At least that's my memory. Someone please correct me if I've got it wrong.
