Let's review history for a moment. The two major migrations of blacks from the South to other parts of the U.S. account for the shift in political parties. These major movements occurred under the Roosevelt administration. Picture yourself migrating to unknown parts with a family and no income. President Roosevelt provided immediate needs plus opportunity of employment. This gave the black communities a since of goodwill from the “leader” of the Democratic Party. Since most settled in the same voting districts they became nice little voting blocks for Democrats. Over time & gerrymandering, the black communities became aligned with the Roosevelt philosophy. Hence, forgetting their strong Republican roots.
