First and second grade? I know I never learned stuff like that in elementary school. Why is any of this taught in elementary school?

But homosexuality appears nowhere in the curriculum
----That is an issue for parents to discuss if their child asks. School is NOT the place to force gay issues/lifestyle on those who do NOT want it. Schools are suppose to prepare children for the future (ie. get jobs, become productive citizens, etc) and unless your elementary school child is aspiring to become a homo when they grow up, this type of educating is useless. If the kid asks, send him to the school counselor, then have the counselor contact the parents.

By the time kids reach middle school they have a choice of electives. Why not make alternative lifestyles an elective?
The parents still have to sign off on the course schedule. Would that work?

Children shouldn't be exposed to anything sexual in an elementary classroom. Oops--no pun intended there.

"Homosexuality has become a part of the social fabric, even prime-time television fare."Only in your alter reality! In Prime time tv is a sure way to alienate the network who has it as part of the fabric, thus making rating plummet. NOBODY watches!font color=black>
"It could be very damaging [to students] if you don't know what you're doing or don't have any experience" in helping them learn about controversial issues. "In the classroom I am a teacher, not a counselor. Homosexuality should be addressed by ... people who are trained and have a background."
Now this teacher gets it!!!

Broward County public school children are taught the names of their private body parts in first grade. In second grade, they learn that AIDS kills. By high school graduation, they have read about birth control. An excellent reason to home school.
