First and second grade? I know I never learned stuff like that in elementary school. Why is any of this taught in elementary school?
Because the Education Establishment is run by a bunch of child molsters. They get to be kids about 1//7th of their lives. Leave this crap for their teenage years you sick scum. LET THEM BE KIDS. Leftists "Educators" will get plenty of time later to indoctrinate, you do NOT have to screw up their childhood too!
You don't know the half of it. Want an education? Go to an annual meeting of the Modern Language Association, or read most of what gets read and written in most college English departments these days. This is where "educators" come from.
By the time kids reach middle school they have a choice of electives. Why not make alternative lifestyles an elective?
The parents still have to sign off on the course schedule. Would that work?
They teach it in elementary school because they've forgotten how to teach the yoots reading, writing and 'rithmatic. They gotta fill the time somehow...

For the 1/7 of the time that I get the kids in my classroom, I really try to indoctrinate them all I can (after I get done teaching them reading, writing, phonics, math, science, and many other things). Unfortunately, the parents that get them 87 % of the time during the year are doing a better job than me. I need some pointers because I'm not getting my required indoctrination time in. We are supposed to read from the Communist Manifesto for 2 hours a day and yet I have not even been able to get it in once this year. Come to think of it, I haven't been able to get the indoctrination time in once during my 10 years of teaching. Maybe I need to make a trip back to China. My Nazi uniform is getting pretty dirty sitting in the closet too.
If the kid asks, send him to the school counselor, then have the counselor contact the parents.
Exactly the way I feel. Actually, nothing serious has come up in my class. The couple of times minor things have come up, I've told the student to ask his/her parents. Those kind of things I don't have the time nor the inclination to get into.
bunch of child molsters
I don't dig those child molsters a big. They're full of holes anyways.
If you want on/off the ping list let me and little jeremiah know.
Children shouldn't be exposed to anything sexual in an elementary classroom. Oops--no pun intended there.
LOL! It's good too see you have a sense of humor even though you're one of those blasted red government-school instructors! (I kid, I kid.)
Like most unionized professions, the problem is not so much with the individual teacher who tries to do his job as best he can, but with the ideologues who obtain and hold power at the highest levels. If at least 10% of parents were to pull their children out of public schools in favor of home education, the whole notion of social indoctrination would be dismantled (save for the general idea of "learning to work and live with your neighbor"). School disctricts would lose students and therefore lose federal funding. Homeschooling parents would be less willing to vote yes on budget increases. Funding for these pet projects would be lost and public schools would be more or less forced to focus solely on learning. Ultimately, if parents want to change the educational system, they're the ones who have to make the changes. Hand-wringing and finger pointing leads nowhere.
Only in your alter reality! In Prime time tv is a sure way to alienate the network who has it as part of the fabric, thus making rating plummet. NOBODY watches!font color=black>
"It could be very damaging [to students] if you don't know what you're doing or don't have any experience" in helping them learn about controversial issues. "In the classroom I am a teacher, not a counselor. Homosexuality should be addressed by ... people who are trained and have a background."
Now this teacher gets it!!!
You're absolutely right. Kids never think about sex, until puberty, unless they are indoctinated and taught to.

You are another example of the quality people I meet once I get under the rhetoric. Sorry for being sarcastic. The social indoctrination notion is not at my school. We have a couple of liberals to be sure, but the teachers don't try to force political beliefs on the kids which is the way it should be.
It's the making of blanket statements, the focusing on the negative, and placing all the blame in one basket that get to me. I have had many wondrous things happen in my own classroom. That's why I agree totally with your last sentence and why I try to make my own changes for the good in the little ways that I can.
The indoctrination thing isn't too much of a factor here, but the climate of disrespect created by some is indeed one (among other) big factor. I hear both sides as I live in the neighborhood I teach. I've never had too many problems with parents as I try to work with them. Some of them become good friends. I express my gratitude MANY times during the year to them. But there are always some out there who don't seem to have a good thing to say. Usually, it's over some minor thing on which they have not gotten their way so they spread gossip and untruths and they're the ones that get listened to. And the biggest complainers are often those who have the most.
While I am a teacher, my biggest (yes I'm complaining against the complainers) reasons are personal. Being one who was raised to be thankful for what I have, to remember to give thanks and compliments, to acknowledge the good along with the bad, and so on and so on, it just gets to me that people have so much time to complain. I appreciate those parents who actually take the time to get involved in however way they can and who are so patient with this bumbling idiot of a teacher. In turn I am patient with parents because we both realize that nobody's perfect. The biggest reason though, is because I just wish I had the time to complain about MY child. I don't have any and that is one of my greatest desires--to raise my own child. I get sad when people complain about things about kids. They don't realize what a privilege it is sometimes. In the meantime, I do what I can to serve the kids in my classroom.
Again, I'm sorry about the sarcasm. I don't think the "social" stuff belongs in a classroom any more than you do. Besides, my students are very "social" already.:)
Judging solely on this post to me, you seem like a quality individual. It was a pleasure. And no, I'm not being sarcastic.:)
The government schools attract pedophiles like San Francisco bathhouses attract gays. And the pedophiles don't always become teachers - - a lot of them find other ways to get near the kids, such as by working for the teachers union or the school district administrators. Some of them even end up as head honchos! But the bottom line is that they just need to be near kids.
Naturally, the curriculum is going to include the subjects that are foremost in the minds of these animals.
Not ours. My uncle was accused of molesting a girl as a teacher (by a mom who abused drugs no less) and lost his job over it. We do need to make sure the molestors don't get in and pass laws to make sure they have the harshest punishments (especially if they are in positions close to children) if they are convicted.
