More bad news for the Special Prosecutor

The Washington Post reports that  Bob Woodward was told of “Wilson’s wife” working for the CIA before Novak or Miller and by an Administration official , apparently not Libby nor Rove.

William Jeffress Jr., one of Libby’s lawyers, said yesterday that Woodward’s testimony undermines Fitzgerald’s public claims about his client and raises questions about what else the prosecutor may not know. Libby has said he learned Plame’s identity from NBC journalist Tim Russert.

“If what Woodward says is so, will Mr. Fitzgerald now say he was wrong to say on TV that Scooter Libby was the first official to give this information to a reporter?” Jeffress said last night. “The second question I would have is: Why did Mr. Fitzgerald indict Mr. Libby before fully investigating what other reporters knew about Wilson’s wife?”

Fitzgerald has spent nearly two years investigating whether senior Bush administration officials illegally leaked classified information—Plame’s identity as a CIA operative—to reporters to discredit allegations made by Wilson. Plame’s name was revealed in a July 14, 2003, column by Robert D. Novak, eight days after Wilson publicly accused the administration of twisting intelligence to justify the Iraq war.[/quote]

Oddly, Woodward says he reported this information to Walter Pincus who says he  has no recollection of the conversation. Only Libby, it seems is held to the impossible standard of recalling the date, participants and content of all his conversations. Clarice Feldman    11 16 05

"..Only Libby, it seems is held to the impossible standard of recalling the date, participants and content of all his conversations..."

Good point, the majority of the case against Libby is based on his recollection of a discussion with Tim Russert or as the indictment says, lies, about the same.

I'm curious if anyone outside the Beltway really cares about this anymore. If they ever did, that is.

I am actually worried, with all do hope that Libby comes out OK with all of this, that this will cause the whole investigation to end prematurely. I am hoping for a trial with all the reporters involved to be marched under oath to the witness stand. If Fitzgerald drops the charges we may never get that. It may be wishful thinking on my part but I want the MSM to suffer.

Fitz thinks he has found his ticket to stardom. The facts don't matter, and with the right judge and jury, he can get a conviction in spite of the facts. Libby will win on appeal, but the damage has already been done.

They may not but they should. Every time somebody pulls the string in Nancy Pelosi's back and she says "culture of corruption" and all the other Dem operatives chime in, it is a clue to how the next election will be conducted.

The theme and talking point of GOP corruption is one of their major selling points, if they can make it stick. They are desperate for another Watergate.

I don't want a trial. No matter what happens it will give the democrats and their allies in MSM to fling feces for a year or so. If it goes on long enough the general public won't remember anything but the loudest and most persistant talking point.

Go to any Dr. office or waiting room and see what literature is available. Usually the last 6 months of Times and Newsweak. I took the liberty of adding some facts to a couple of articles today while I waited on my missus

You have a definite point. Take away the trial and you take away the talking points and spotlight. I guess I have this unrealistic hope that the MSM would actually be the one's that end up on trial.

They may not but they should.

It's too intricate. Ask any person you know who isn't a Freeper if they can tell you what Libby is charged with. I'll bet they can't.

Since it would apprar Joe Wilson told the entire DC cocktail circuit that his wife "was CIA," we can expect more such "revelations," I'm sure.

I suspect people who get their information from those sources are already voting democrat. My thing at the doctor's office is to change the channel from CNN to FOX News. It's always changed back when I've returned to check.

Ask the same people if they have ever heard the phrase, "Culture of Corruption"? If they watch the national news they
probably have.

From the beginning of this, I have suspected two people: Hillary or Richard Clarke. Today Woodward admitted his admin source is not currently in the admin. - however, I think Clarke might still have been in the WH during the time period Woodward is talking about.

It would be fun if it was Clarke. Chris Matthews suggested Dick Chaney, (he Hopes!)

Joe DiGenova said "apparently a former official". If that is accurate, it could be Clarke.

It could be a lot of people.
