During the height of the Soviet purges in the mid-'30s, as millions of innocents were being tortured, exiled and killed on Stalin's orders, Murrow's good pal Duggan was using his position at the State Department to pass important documents to the Soviets. The documents were so sensitive, Duggan had to return the originals to the State Department before the end of the day. Some were so important, they were sent directly to Stalin and Molotov.

The House Committee On Un-American Activities (bastardized by the left as "HUAAC") began, with just cause, in the 1930s. Stalin's useful idiots served a master as vile as Hitler.

To hear these liberals carry on, "McCarthyism" was the worst thing that ever happened in the history of the universe.

The Zogbyism of the left today to smear and criminalize conservatism is far worse. Communists served a foreign power. While the left may be ideologically opposed to Republicans, there is no "enemy" aided and abetted. Conservative policy has been hounded as thought crime. Welcome to political correctness. There has been an agenda afoot to systematically take down conservative hosts (O'Reilly, Limbaugh, Savage, Bennett...) as well as Republicans in leadership roles (Frist, DeLay) and those in the administration (including Rove) as well as phony documents broadcast as fact to throw an election (and Zogby's own bogus poll numbers on election day designed to depress Republicans).

Who would ever let the left have opportunity to indoctrinate their children about history? There WERE witches in The Crucible (the girls "playing" in the woods) just as there WERE communists serving the Soviet Union. Then again, the left likes the "balance of power" provided the Soviets with the espionage of the atomic bomb.

Another insult is all of the leftist critics who applauded this film as an indictment of the Bush Administration's "chill wind" silencing critics.

As I posted above, there IS a modern parallel to the fairy tale they spin but they are too partisan to see it.

My only question is where is McCarthey when we really need him to root out today's America-hating traitors.

Destroyed by the left and abandoned by the right.

"Is this sarcasm or is Ann saying Murrow was really a dim bulb?"

Why do you think they're referred to as "talking heads?"

Maybe if you tell the world that the Verona Papers are the sequel to the DaVinci Code, more people would read them.

"It's been quite a few years now since the Russians released those old USSR spy documents that confirm how correct McCarthy was."

The only connection to Russia is that they sent the cables. The U.S. NSA intercepted the cables, decrypted them and the government acted on the intelligence which was classified til 1995 when it was de-classified. That's probably when you read about it in the New York Times, the LA Times, the Chgo Tribune and other progressive publications - well, maybe not. But the info did begin to join the known world as opposed to the unknown or suspected world in 1995.

Ann Coulter is brilliant. I had the priviledge to meet her while at the RNC in New York last year. I was so stunned to see her in line going through a security checkpoint and I flashed a picture of her without even asking. She was very gracious about it despite my rudeness in not asking first. She is as gorgeous in person as she is in her photos.

What I find frightening about todays public is their ignorance of the similarities between positions and goals of the Democrats and others on the left with the goals of the communists.

I've saved this link for some time just to remind myself what it is we are really up against. The reality of the modern day left can not be ignored.

Communist Goals

Take a look at #15 and and onward.

After being questioned by the FBI, Duggan leapt from a window. Of course, given the people he was doing business with, he may have been pushed.

Defenestration was a favorite way for the Commies to get rid of inconvenient people.

I've seen some claims that those are not authentic but I agree with your statement in principle. The left is hard left today. With many of the same voices chiming in that were pushing it radical left in the 1960s.

Want to know why this country has not been this divided since Vietnam? Ask Kerry, Lewis, et al who were rabble rousing back then to divide this nation as well. Same old football plays. Same tired team.

Actually, I was a huge Ann fan, but the way she treated the president and his nominees during all the Supreme Court nominations (especially when she said GW must have been drunk to nominate Miers), well... she lost me there.
I believe that your characterization of Ann's remarks during the Meiers debacle approaches the status of URBAN LEGEND.
Can you substantiate this accusation?
As I recall, THIS this the only reference which could realistically be the basis of your charge -- repeated by MANY on this forum -- and it specifically targets the President's PAST behavior, NOT any sort of "relapse" into alcoholism in recent days:

This is what 'advice and consent' means (Ann Coulter)

I eagerly await the announcement of President Bush's real nominee to the Supreme Court. If the president meant Harriet Miers seriously, I have to assume Bush wants to go back to Crawford and let Dick Cheney run the country.

Unfortunately for Bush, he could nominate his Scottish terrier Barney, and some conservatives would rush to defend him, claiming to be in possession of secret information convincing them that the pooch is a true conservative and listing Barney's many virtues – loyalty, courage, never jumps on the furniture ...

Harriet Miers went to Southern Methodist University Law School, which is not ranked at all by the serious law school reports and ranked No. 52 by US News and World Report. Her greatest legal accomplishment is being the first woman commissioner of the Texas Lottery.

I know conservatives have been trained to hate people who went to elite universities, and generally that's a good rule of thumb. But not when it comes to the Supreme Court.

First, Bush has no right to say "Trust me." He was elected to represent the American people, not to be dictator for eight years. Among the coalitions that elected Bush are people who have been laboring in the trenches for a quarter-century to change the legal order in America. While Bush was still boozing it up in the early '80s, Ed Meese, Antonin Scalia, Robert Bork and all the founders of the Federalist Society began creating a farm team of massive legal talent on the right.

To casually spurn the people who have been taking slings and arrows all these years and instead reward the former commissioner of the Texas Lottery with a Supreme Court appointment is like pinning a medal of honor on some flunky paper-pusher with a desk job at the Pentagon – or on John Kerry – while ignoring your infantrymen doing the fighting and dying...

Ann can be RUTHLESS, but she is generally PRECISE. :o)
