Re: Cheney Tonight
National Review Online ^ | November 16, 2005 | Dick Cheney

Posted on 11/16/2005 2:32:09 PM PST by Cautor

VICE PRESIDENT CHENEY: "As most of you know, I have spent a lot of years in public service, and first came to work in Washington, D.C. back in the late 1960s. I know what it's like to operate in a highly charged political environment, in which the players on all sides of an issue feel passionately and speak forcefully. In such an environment people sometimes lose their cool, and yet in Washington you can ordinarily rely on some basic measure of truthfulness and good faith in the conduct of political debate. But in the last several weeks we have seen a wild departure from that tradition. And the suggestion that's been made by some U.S. senators that the President of the United States or any member of this Administration purposely misled the American people on pre-war intelligence is one of the most dishonest and reprehensible charges ever aired in this city.

"Some of the most irresponsible comments have, of course, come from politicians who actually voted in favor of authorizing force against Saddam Hussein. These are elected officials who had access to the intelligence, and were free to draw their own conclusions. They arrived at the same judgment about Iraq's capabilities and intentions that was made by this Administration and by the previous Administration. There was broad-based, bipartisan agreement that Saddam Hussein was a threat … that he had violated U.N. Security Council Resolutions … and that, in a post-9/11 world, we couldn't afford to take the word of a dictator who had a history of WMD programs, who had excluded weapons inspectors, who had defied the demands of the international community, who had been designated an official state sponsor of terror, and who had committed mass murder. Those are facts. What we're hearing now is some politicians contradicting their own statements and making a play for political advantage in the middle of a war. The saddest part is that our people in uniform have been subjected to these cynical and pernicious falsehoods day in and day out. American soldiers and Marines are out there every day in dangerous conditions and desert temperatures – conducting raids, training Iraqi forces, countering attacks, seizing weapons, and capturing killers – and back home a few opportunists are suggesting they were sent into battle for a lie. The President and I cannot prevent certain politicians from losing their memory, or their backbone – but we're not going to sit by and let them rewrite history. We're going to continue throwing their own words back at them. And far more important, we're going to continue sending a consistent message to the men and women who are fighting the war on terror in Iraq, Afghanistan, and many other fronts. We can never say enough how much we appreciate them, and how proud they make us. They and their families can be certain: That this cause is right … and the performance of our military has been brave and honorable … and this nation will stand behind our fighting forces with pride and without wavering until the day of victory."

How many times will supposedly "Conservatives" use every single opportunity to whine an bitch about the Bush Administration on EVERY thread.

One has to wonder what the motivation is for the Whine all the Time Choir? Do they think they HELP the Conservative agenda when they spend 100% of their time firing on their OWN side. Gee like the 1st 20,000 posts saying the EXACT same whine by the dozen members of the WHINE ALL THE TIME CHOIR weren't enough. Now we have to hear Exactly the same Bash Bush rant IN EVERY THREAD! I have come to the conclusion that the Whiner just keep posting these same old childish rants because they simply do NOT have anything at all to say BUT this whine. Most of us Freepers would be eternally grateful if the Whine all the Time crowd would AT LAEST find something NEW to whine about.

To be completely truthful, I am beginning to suspect that the Whine Crowd REALLY is NOT on our side at all.

Word of advice..Get over it.

They are fighting back strong now. Back them up. Past can't be undone, but lies can be engaged.

BTW, I do agree about wishing Ari would return.

I’m sorry that we couldn’t be joined by Senators Harry Reid, John Kerry, or Jay Rockefeller. They were unable to attend due to a prior lack of commitment.

ROFL! FOX has got to air this, or C-Span!

I'm trying to find some way, some how, some where to watch it. Not on the C-Span schedule. If anyone hears anything, please ping me.

I love how he started out his speech:

"This is his opening:
Thank you very much, and good evening to all of you. I heard about your gathering, and since I work down the street from here I thought I’d drop in and say hello.

Let me thank the good people of Frontiers of Freedom – George Landrith, Kerri Houston, Al Lee – for bringing us all together this evening. I see many good friends in the room, including current and former office holders. It’s a pleasure to see all of you. I’m sorry that we couldn’t be joined by Senators Harry Reid, John Kerry, or Jay Rockefeller. They were unable to attend due to a prior lack of commitment."

Superb. This is a full throated GOP attack. The Base has been waiting for this for some time. I still believe that he waited too long, but Karl's hand can be seen in all this. Bush has to remain consistently relentless in his attacks.

He should find a way to get Condi into this act. Though she is SOS, the Lefties have saddled her with their lies as well. Her popularity carries weight, and a speech along these lines would carry the ball way down the field.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

Oh Johnnie, you are SOOOOO diplomatic. I would suspect we can be quite sure there are at least 313 on FR that are NOT on our side.

Strongly disapprove 11.6% 313

I think this administration needs a Press Secretary who can effectively articulate this everyday.

If only Cheney were our President, he'd have put an end to this nonsense long ago. ~sigh~

I'm well over it. I just have a gut feeling this is going to be "too little, too late" and will fall on deaf ears, since most have already made up their minds whether Bush lied or didn't. I hope I'm proven wrong.

With the 2006 elections approaching, this Administration has got to put it in gear and be on the offensive non-stop.

Both Klintons are rotten to the core which is bad enough, but they are quite prepared to sacrifice this entire nation for their personal political gain. The rapist traitor in chief should indeed be exposed for the lying hypocrite he is about Iraq. Ditto Sandy Burgler and Maddy Notatallbright.
