She was arrested in Salt when she tried to seek refuge with the family of her sister's husband Nidal Arabiyat, a Zarqawi ally who was killed in clashes with U.S. forces in Iraq in 2003, a senior government official said. "She arrived and her behavior was suspicious so she was apprehended there," the official said. Arabiyat was an explosives expert who had been with Zarqawi in northern Iraq before the U.S.-led invasion.

The Iraqi government did not control northern Iraq after the Persian Gulf War.
