The best solution [un-PC: upfront warning] would be having rigorous streaming of students by IQ and several NAEP standards - one for each stream. Gifted kids could be doing 5-dimensional geometry in 6th grade [and would benefit from doing it, especially if they do it in their heads], while the retardees would be still learning the basic spelling. One should not teach to the lowest common denominator - and it is always the lowest.

Anyone so gifted should be in college studying to be a Doctor.
