Plus, NOBODY thought that "Wilson's wife" was anything more than a CIA desk jockey, probably because.... THAT'S WHAT SHE WAS!!

"Downie said he could not explain why Woodward provided a tip about Wilson's wife to Walter Pincus, a Post reporter writing about the subject, but did not pursue the matter when the CIA leak investigation began. He said Woodward has often worked under ground rules while doing research for his books that prevent him from naming sources or even using the information they provide until much later.
Woodward's statement said he testified: "I told Walter Pincus, a reporter at The Post, without naming my source, that I understood Wilson's wife worked at the CIA as a WMD analyst."
Pincus said he does not recall Woodward telling him that. In an interview, Pincus said he cannot imagine he would have forgotten such a conversation around the same time he was writing about Wilson.
"Are you kidding?" Pincus said. "I certainly would have remembered that."
Pincus said Woodward may be confused about the timing and the exact nature of the conversation. He said he remembers Woodward making a vague mention to him in October 2003. That month, Pincus had written a story explaining how an administration source had contacted him about Wilson. He recalled Woodward telling him that Pincus was not the only person who had been contacted."
You know.. Pincus keeps popping up in the most interesting of places.
Hoo boy.... So then WHO?? Cheney?
Some questions to think about:
1) If everyone in Washington knew Plame wasn't covert (and let's assume the CIA also knew she wasn't covert), why then did the CIA ask the Justice Department to investigate this?
2) Why the amplified hysteria these days about "Bush lying" regarding invading Iraq on manipulated intel? Isn't the "Bush lied"-to-get-us-into-Iraq charge about as old as the Shock & Awe campaign? Could it be crucially important to amplify that charge now because the pending Libby trial might cover a lot about WMD pre-war intel, revealing something other than "Bush Lied" and therefore it's got to be re-ingrained in the consciousness of us all now, beforehand, to blunt any other discoveries?
3) Why is it that Major News Organizations feel compelled to hold some leaders accountable daily for their statements and positions (read: Republicans), while others have no such scrutiny applied to them (read: Democrats on previous statements about Iraq, Saddam & WMD's)?
Just food for thought.
IMO Pincus and David Corn both knew who was who. Wilson ran to them and leaked the story in May 03. The same time Wilson joined forces with Kerry's Kampaign. No coincidence the Forgeries were a concerted MSM/DNC/Kerry Production.
This is an amazing story.
It really is worth going to the Washington Post and reading the whole thing.

Everyone knew that Plame worked for the CIA, wasn't covert, and had sent that loud mouth Wilson to Niger.

Witness #1 to bolster possibility that Libby could have forgotten events from more than one year ago: Walter Pincus.

Mark Corallo, a spokesman for Rove, said that Rove is not the unnamed official who told Woodward about Plame and that he did not discuss Plame with Woodward.
It wasn't Libby and it wasn't Rove.
That people don't know the details is part of the beauty of this for Democrats. It allows them to continue to portray Wilson and his wife as the victims of a White House smear campaign and provides more "evidence" that Bush lied.
Did Pincus appear before the grand jury? Could Woodward's testimony possibly be in conflict with what Pincus told them?
The senior admin official did not believe the that information was classified. So how is it that Fitz came to believe her status was classified? If he was depending on computer info, I hope someone has the good sense to go back to prior years DBs and see if there have been any alteration of her records.
Yes... Well, maybe the reason that Woodward's statement didn't make an impression on Pincus is that Pincus already knew that Plame was CIA, from Wilson himself. But Pincus apparently has the "I can't remember" defense down pat, doesn't he?
