Another near-term factor to consider is our troops in the field - we made a promise to them when We the people sent them to war. A Democrat congress would cut their fudning in a NY minute and bring them home in defeat. Then, when faced with an increase in terrorism they'd blame it on Bush's "cowboy" policies while formally apologizing to the world.
The way the Republicans have been acting recently, we may see this before the Democrats take over.
