A concise, factual article from the AP???? I share your surprise (tongue firmly in cheek). Something is very odd in this AP report. For example, note the underlined parts in the following lines from AP
Attorney Dick DeGuerin said in a letter that "time is of the essence" in the case that has temporarily forced DeLay to step down from his top House post.
Real AP reporters have Rep. DeLay already convicted and awaiting sentencing.
DeGuerin is also asking that Priest, a visiting judge, move the trial out of left-leaning Travis County to DeLay's home Fort Bend County.
When have you ever seen AP properly identify and characterize a Democrat stronghold using that term?
I fear a sane person has invaded the AP office, is holding the AP staff hostage, and is issuing bogus AP stories filled with accurate and unbiased information.

The charges are going to get thrown out, and DeLay will return to business as usual.

Whoever wrote this article will be called into the office, reprimanded, and "coached". Look for modifications in the article.

Oops...we missed the last part of the article:
DeLay and two of his associates are charged with criminal conspiracy and money laundering in the case, which stems from fundraising and spending in the 2002 Texas legislative races. Corporate donations were allegedly routed through DeLay's Texas political action committee to the national Republican party, which then returned nearly the same amount back to seven Texas House candidates. Use of corporate donations for direct campaign expenditures is illegal in Texas. Looks like they managed add a few lines that totally misrepresented the transactions in question. And wasn't that law NOT in force when these transactions took place, anyway? Wasn't that why Earle scrambled to replace the first indictment, when DeGuerin flagged him on getting an indictment for a law that wasn't even on the books yet?

Aha, that's a good observation and you make a valid point. There is just enough leftist obfuscation in the story to reassure me that the situation is normal at the AP office.
Thank you, friend. I would have looked like an idiot if I had called law enforcement and reported a possible break-in and hostage taking.
To: Unmarked Package
Of course, you will notice that their lame attempt to mitigate the leftist obfuscation by the use of the word, "allegedly". Ah, but there's juuuuust enough there to leave a taint. Clever little wascals.

Good.
Speed this up, get it over with, then get back home to spank the kiddies that have been acting up in the House while he was gone.

An attorney for U.S. Rep. Tom DeLay said Monday that he will request an early December trial date for the former House majority leader, if the case gets that far. :-D )))
Seriously, how often do you see a defendant who actually wants a speedy trial?

Looks like they managed add a few lines that totally misrepresented the transactions in question. And wasn't that law NOT in force when these transactions took place, anyway? The conspiracy hook was absent when the alleged transgression occurred. The laundering offense did exist at that time. Earle's scramble was to obtain a laundering indictment against Delay. He's had a laundering indictment against the two co-conspirators since April.

Tom Delay is my choice for presidential candidate in '08, even if I have to write his name in.
