An Eagle Scout should be able to make his own WEAPON (like the Buffettfan says... keep your gun out of it!)

A Ruger .22 and go through a couple thousand rounds. (<$15 worth of ammo.) You'll learn how to shoot, load, clean, etc. before you invest much money.

My first gun was an old over-under Stevens .22/.410. I would recommend it as a first gun to anyone.

No kidding. The BB gun is right by the door at all times. I shoot it every day and haven't broken a window in decades.

I think you probably meant that for someone else. My range is in my back yard, I have over a mile with no structures.

I already am a certified instructor, or should say was one as I let my certification lapse when I retired.

For a beginner, I would recommend a .22 semi-auto or bolt-action rifle. If you get the semi-auto, though, you may need to shoot with someone more experienced in case it jams up.

Does anyone still have the jpeg of that "Hellfire 2000"? It's the perfect beginners gun because it has everything.

My husband just bought one of those, because it's what his grandfather used.

If you can learn to play the wind and the lob of a Red Ryder and take the beak off a black bird (or hit the paper target) you can shoot anything. You don't need a vapor trail when you can see the BB.

.357 S&W 686 with 4 inch barrel. 7 shot revolver.
Anything by Sig Sauer - I have a Sigpro in .40 Cal

Hell........don't get caught up on the whole "first gun" thing. Most people end up owning many. I have 2 hadguns, 1 .308 HP rifle, and 4 shotguns. Guns are like Wheat thins..............can't just own one.

We could suggest the "Vanity Gun". It only hits the post once but can't be traced.

Yup, I just cliked on the bottom reply and intended it for the author of the thread. I am a retired/lapsed NRA certified instructor also.
