Do burning cars count as "chatter"?

They are running out of cars to burn, so they are now burning schools and retirement homes.

How exactly is burning schools and retirement homes a de-escalation?

3 months? LMAO. I've always told the Left we had two choices 1) drain the swamp in the ME or 2) turn out nation into a police state. Thanks for the assist Chirac.

That is a pretty ineffectual "State of Emergency" if that many cars are still being torched and that many months are expected to bring it to an end.

What a gay country.

France's four levels of emergency:

Level 1) Run
Level 2) Hide
Level 3) Collaborate
Level 4) Surrender

Because the number of 'things' are lower. Don't you know we are not counting by value, just by tally. Doesn't that work for you? ;o)

The French Federation of Insurance Companies gave a preliminary estimate for the total damage from the rioting — up to $234 million

In a country the size of France, that's the equivilent of $1.2 billion if it were here in the USA. Not a tiny sum.

That's approaching "hurricane damage" levels.

"while youths set schools ablaze and waged other scattered arson attacks across France" Yeah, kids will be kids. You know, those kids need a great big hug. They need love.

The emergency measures empower regions to impose curfews on minors, conduct house searches and take other steps to prevent unrest.

Sounds quite a bit more draconian than our own USA PATRIOT Act. Do you hear any squawking from the left about how France is now a police state and how de Villepin is a fascist? Me neither.

As despicable as the French government is, I think we need to hope that they can be successful in stopping this because, if the moslem hordes get that kind of a foothold in Europe, our trouble with them multiplies by a factor of thousands. Sure, I'd like to see the French suffer for their doubling-dealing and back-stabbing, but not at the cost of having to re-invade Europe like we did in 1944.

When a country can no longer maintain internal order, it ceases to be country. That is axiomatic. We are seeing the collapse of France into a mere geopolitical concept with no substance, a country only in the sense that Bosnia or Somalia are countries.

We are moving to Rome, Italy in May 2006. I plan to go to Paris, London, etc. while we are living there for two years. We have been to Europe many times on vacation, but only one of our kids got to go with us, and that was just on one of our trips. This time our youngest son who is 21 will go with us and he will attend an American University near Rome. Our other two kids are grown and will come visit us with their finaces, too. I sure hope things calm down before May, albeit selfishly.
