This isn't the real America (Jimmah Carter Op-Ed Alert)
Los Angeles Times ^ | November 14, 2005 | President Jimmy Carter

Posted on 11/14/2005 5:15:47 AM PST by RWR8189

IN RECENT YEARS, I have become increasingly concerned by a host of radical government policies that now threaten many basic principles espoused by all previous administrations, Democratic and Republican.

These include the rudimentary American commitment to peace, economic and social justice, civil liberties, our environment and human rights.

Also endangered are our historic commitments to providing citizens with truthful information, treating dissenting voices and beliefs with respect, state and local autonomy and fiscal responsibility.

At the same time, our political leaders have declared independence from the restraints of international organizations and have disavowed long-standing global agreements — including agreements on nuclear arms, control of biological weapons and the international system of justice.

Instead of our tradition of espousing peace as a national priority unless our security is directly threatened, we have proclaimed a policy of "preemptive war," an unabridged right to attack other nations unilaterally to change an unsavory regime or for other purposes. When there are serious differences with other nations, we brand them as international pariahs and refuse to permit direct discussions to resolve disputes.

Why can't Jimmah just leave America alone.

4 years was enough.

A winning platform for '08.

I think we need a law that nobody can use a title like President or Ambassador or Judge unless he's currently holding the office.

I hope that he keeps his face in the camera's forever. It reminds me why Carter was the last Democrat that I will ever vote for President.

Jimmy Carter is still trying to rewrite his "legacy". I would, too if I were him. He's a disgrace and he forgot a long time ago that he lives in a sovereign AMERICA. He's a one-world government Socialist.

These include the rudimentary American commitment gas lines, pandering to terrorists, acting weak and scared, double digit unemployment, double digit interest rates, weakening the military....

Because this country rejected him. And he hates it for that, nothing more nothing less. That is how little people operate, and he is one of the littlest among the meanest.

If Carter had to choose between peace and freedom, he'd take the former at the expense of the latter. His inaction during the Iran crisis was probably the single biggest cause of the war we fight today.

He's a coward and an enemy of the United States.

No further discussion is needed.

His inaction during the Iran crisis..

Wonder how many people know or remember (other than this forum) that's where it all began.

Truly the most inept pathetic president of ALL time.

The phrase "bitter old man" seems appropriate. This op-ed is a very typical shotgun blast of liberal assumptions and whining that isn't backed up with facts. Most disturbing of all is the lack of any new ideas and alternatives about how to achieve the platitudes that Jimmy proclaims.

As the world's only superpower, America should be seen as the unswerving champion of peace, freedom and human rights. Our country should be the focal point around which other nations can gather to combat threats to international security and to enhance the quality of our common environment. We should be in the forefront of providing human assistance to people in need.

OK Jimmy, over 60 nations banded together to liberate 25 million people in Iraq and this was done on the heels of liberating millions in Afghanistan. How many were liberated during your 4 years? And while you were in office, the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan while you blustered and withdrew us from the Olympics. Sure that really showed them. Even the Iranian hostages were freed AFTER Reagan was sworn into office.

The LAT reassigned Robert Scheer and replaced him with an op-ed by Jimmy Carter? Bring back Scheer! Jimm-uh is a bitter, petty, old man. Not even a Nobel Prize has soothed his anger at America.

Speaking of Jimmy, caught Andy Roooney kissing up to Jimmy last night. Andy made the comment that everybody likes Jimmy. I kept waiting for him to finish the joke. The American people thought they did in 1980.
