IOWA CITY, Iowa, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- An associate law professor at the University of Iowa wants school officials to repaint the all-pink men's visitor's locker room at Kinnick Stadium.
Jill Gaulding says the color scheme sends a misogynistic message and represents "a serious obstacle to gender equity on campus."
Former football coach Hayden Fry had the visitors' locker room painted pink in the early 1980s to get a psychological edge over other teams.
When the university finished new locker rooms this year as part of an $86.8-million renovation of Kinnick Stadium, the school found ways to make the visitor's side even more Barbie-esque, the Los Angeles Times reported.
The ceramic tiles in the shower room are pink. So are the bathroom sinks, the interior of the equipment room, and the open metal lockers that hold players' uniforms. The carpet is covered in delicate pink and gray flowers, the newspaper said.
Gaulding says the unconscious brain picks up on stereotypes; most people saw the pink locker room as a way to call rival teams "girls and sissies," which "reinforces sexism and homophobia."
LOL! I love it!!!
Were the urinals removed too?
LOL! What a great idea, this idiot must not understand what mens team sports are all about. I bet the visiting teams get a huge laugh when they see it and want to do the same at their school.
What is happening to our country?
Were the urinals removed too?Bet they had a tough time finding pink ones.

Jill, get over yourself!
At the risk of offending female football fans who actually understand the game and the gamesmanship within it, I have a suggestion for law professor Erin Buzuvis at the University of Iowa: Shut up, get back in the kitchen and make sure my sandwich is ready by halftime. There, now THAT was demeaning to women.
Buzuvis is a visiting professor, new to Iowa this fall, and she decided to lecture the athletic department as well as her law students.
Turns out the fair professor doesn't like the pink locker room that is home to visiting football teams at Kinnick Stadium. She says the pink motif that stretches from the walls to the showers and even to the urinals is "homophobic" and "demeaning to women."
The pink room was ordered by legendary Hawkeyes coach Hayden Fry decades ago, because Fry knew of the "calming" effect that certain colors have on people. Rather than having his opponents frothing at the mouth with red-faced intensity, he preferred that they be a little more mellow. Fry knew what psychologists know: Certain colors have definite impacts on one's mood.
Red is an extreme color and stimulates a more rapid heartbeat and faster breathing. Black is the color of authority and power, which is why so many football teams try to incorporate it into their uniforms. And pink has exactly what coach Fry wanted it to have: A tranquilizing, calming effect on those surrounded by it.
So what's the problem here? If a home team wants to paint the opponent's locker room with pastel yellow and green polka dots, whose business is that? It's called a home-field advantage and teams should take advantage of it in every way they can.
And they generally do, too. That is, until self-important intellectuals come to town and stick their uninformed noses into someone else's wall paint.
"With a pink locker room, you're saying that, You are a girlie man. You are weak, like a girl,'" Buzuvis told the Associated Press.
Ummm, yeah. Exactly. So what's your point?
This is the type of ignorant commentary we should expect from people who have never played a sport in their lives. Football is a violent game. And the goal in violent combat is not to nurture or promote tolerance and equality among mankind. The goal is to intimidate. To threaten. To strike fear in the opponent. To make them feel weak. Like girlie men.
Trust me, they are not exchanging recipes at the bottom of a scrimmage pile.
"It implies that girls are nondominant, therefore, lesser. And that is offensive," Buzuvis said.
Hey, Erin, newsflash: Girls ARE nondominant when it comes to football. Go ahead and count the number playing Division I ball.
And get me that sandwich when you're done.
Painting the visitor's locker room pink is unsportman like conduct.
It doesnt tell the whole story-she is a Boston elitist liberal from another school who was just hired at Iowa. I read somehwere that she knew about the locker room beforehand, and made it her first order of buisness when she hired on...
Hey Jill, It is only a football game. And we intend to beat up on our girlie boy opponents.
GTFOH! Are you serious?
That lady lawyer needs to get a life, seriously.
The next target for this "professor" is Mattel and Toys-R-Us. Walk into a Toys-R-Us store and you can tell from 100 feet away where the girls' aisles are located - pink boxes from floor to ceiling. Mattel needs to be sued for their stereotypical packaging and Toys-R-Us really needs to stop "gender" segregating the childrens' playthings.
Football isn't important to Jill Gaulding. Writing tripe that gets her press is what is important.
"The worst insult is the vending machine for feminine hygiene products.."
Oh! Needs to bedone if at all possible. Specialty ones wrapped in little corn husks.
Idiots like this should be put on "ignore" Who cares what this oddball thinks? Why even acknowledge her. She's just another leftist chowing down at the public trough at a taxpayer funded university.
She has no qualifications outside this university except flipping burgers at McDonald's.
What's happening to this country? Democrat girly boys are in control!
Perhaps they should remove scoreboards as well. Just play for an hour, shake hands and go home. At the end of the season give every team a trophy.
