Democrat Mark Warner is very popular (75% approval rating _) in VA, so it's natual to an extent they'd stay with his chosen successor..However, calling Warner a Dem is a misnomer..ideologically, he'd be in the middle of the GOP House caucus..

Very true ... and Kaine ran largely as a Warner pseudo-Republican clone and pretty much wore his faith on his sleave.

I don't see there being a Dem POTUS candidate who is palatable to Dems at the national level but who could still win VA in the general election. I don't even think that if the Dem nominee were to put Warner into the VP slot they could win VA.
