This thread seems to have some generational differences... So, I might as well contribute to the fray...with some military service perspective (my parents WWII, in-laws Korea, brother Vietnam and my husband Iraq). My husband's career Army...enlisted. And over his various deployments & duty stations, I've thanked the Lord daily that I did not have to go through a WWII spouse's experiences. (I speak not for the horror of combat which seems to have remained unchanged since Cain killed his brother.) Those soldiers "few" YEARS in combat were just that...years...some were away from their families for 6 years. They came home when they "won"...no 14 month "early-out", no 6 month rotation in & back...just out...until their mission was done. These soldiers grew up in the depression, won a global war, came home and went back to work..."Easy"???

Sadly, that generation is passing now and maybe as a small repayment for those left...they can have their electric wheelchairs and prescription meds without too much complaint from "late" boomers such as myself.

Please extend a "Thank you for your service" from an early GenXer to your husband and the rest of your family.
