I heard Lt. Gov. Steele discuss this incident with Laura Ingram.
He asked her, "What do you do with that (have cookies thrown at you)?"
He told her, he asked them, "Got milk?"

Very Orwellian.
Anyone here much knows that Dems don't have a problem with denying reality.

What do contemporaneous news reports about this debate have to say? Surely any such outlandish behavior would have been reported in the various media.

Some of it is in the article. I had to edit, to post.
There are reports of it.
And, this written in the Baltimore Sun, not exactly your unbiased news source.

"It was raining Oreos," Schurick said. "They were thick in the air like locusts. I was there. It was very real. It wasn't subtle." The guy's got a knack for imagery.

Guys like Mike Steele and Ken Blackwell scare the evil donkey deep down to his rickety bones. They will throw Oreos at Steele and Blackwell in the future. Bank on it.

During the 2000 New Hampshire Primary campaign,Algore's supporters would chant 'go home, you cripple' to Algore's opponent,Senator Bob Kerrey of Nebraska.
Mr Kerrey,of course,lost a leg in Vietnam.
So I have no problem believing the "Oreos" story, even without the benefit of videotapes!

At one of Hillary's functions some of those in attendance spit on the boy scouts. Whats so hard top believe about throwing Oreo cookies. As for the mop guy who calims he didnt sweep up any Oreos. Those that threw them probably picked them back up and ate them. Most of them live in a dumpster anyway.

One of Hillary's functions? They spit on Boy Scouts who were presenting the colors at the Democratic National Convention in 2000!

There were two debates this happened at:
"-At a September debate in Maryland between the candidates for lieutenant governor, supporters of Democratic gubernatorial candidate Kathleen Kennedy Townsend passed out Oreo cookies to mock black Republican hopeful Michael Steele. At another debate that month, between Townsend and Republican Bob Ehrlich, Democrats also passed out Oreos--and then led the crowd in raucous booing of Ehrlich's wife and elderly parents. Afterwards, Democrats keyed the cars of several Ehrlich supporters." http://www.weeklystandard.com/Content/Public/Articles/000/000/001/855fbmpo.asp
