Under the Hindu caste system you are either born to rule or to eternal servitude. This cannot change from generation to generation. The child of an untouchable is an untouchable as was his parent and grand-parent ad-infinitum. The same for Brahmins (Priests), Ksatriyas (Rulers and Warriors), etc. There is no hope that your child will grow up to a better life than yours. Their only hope is in re-incarnation, karma and all that.
Christianity messes with that power structure and is therefore something to be feared by the priests and rulers. If the Untouchables and Sudras (Laborers) were ever to discover all of the implications of Christianity, especially equality before God, the caste system would most likely collapse.

I have heard this about the caste system. I wonder where ARridgerunner and Gengis Khan sit in the caste system. I guess pretty high up.
It is a horrible thing to treat others the way I hear the lower in the caste system are treated. I know I was thinking about the fact that one earthquake or one event could put all in the same boat.
