Sexual Affairs between Pupils and Teachers ‘Can Be Beneficial’ Says UK Prof

SHEFFIELD, UK, November 11, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A professor of education is contending that sexual relations between pupils and teachers can lend a beneficial “erotic charge” to the classroom.

Sheffield University professor Pat Sikes, in a paper to be published in the new year, “Scandalous stories and dangerous liaisons: when female pupils and male teachers fall in love,” describes instances of sexual relationships between schoolgirls and their teachers. Sikes told the Times Educational Supplement that she fell in love with her 22-year-old teacher when she was a girl and pupil of his at only 14, claiming that not all such relationships are wrong, even though the UK’s Sexual Offences Act has made all such acts criminal.

Child advocates were quick to condemn Sikes’ views as “bizarre.” “The Sexual Offences Act was designed with a welcome emphasis on protecting children and young people, rather than on the rights of the small number of pupils over the age of consent who choose to engage in sexual relationships on equal terms with a teacher,” said ChildLine spokesman Natasha Finlayson. The Sexual Offences Act, enacted in 2003, made criminal any under-age sexual relations between teachers and students. “For Dr Sikes to praise the ‘seductive nature and erotic charge’ of good teaching is misguided and bizarre at best.”

Sikes’ paper claims that “Expressions of sexuality provide a major currency and resource in the everyday exchanges of school life . . . and nowhere more so, perhaps, than in the seductive nature and ‘erotic charge’ often characteristic of ‘good’ teaching which provokes a positive and exciting response.”

National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children director of public policy, Phillip Noyes, said, “Children spend the majority of their day at school and teachers have a unique relationship with their pupils which should never be abused.”

Sikes emphasised that she is opposed to child abuse and that her views are based on information provided by schoolchildren who said their sexual relationships were voluntary and without regret.

Explains a lot. Sex with her teacher at age 14 was probably the last time for her.

Sure it's beneficial. It is beneficial to me, since I will get a good cardio workout beating the s**t out of the teacher who would molest my kid.

She looks pretty miserable, doesn't she? Maybe the sex wasn't all that great after all.

These people who spout garbage like this, this Professor Numbskull, well, they are insane.

In the past Britain had places to put these people. Today, they are teaching in Universities.

Ah, the slippery slope. Notice they are afraid to say "wrong" so they use the word "bizarre". Soon it will become "offbeat" then "unusual" then "different" then "alternate" then "acceptable" then "preferred" then "required" then "mandatory". And parents will be prevented by law from interferring. They will also be required to provide a bed for the 'couple'.

It's an excuse. They can't excuse their behavior or face the truth so they try to redefine the terms instead. What a loser. This lady must have the emotional maturity of a 12 y/o.

"sexual relations between pupils and teachers can lend a beneficial “erotic charge” to the classroom.".

We already ask so much of our teachers. We simply can't burden them with this additional responsibility.
