Because Santorum is a last of the northeast conservatives. If he falls, the entire northeast becomes solely the domain of RINOs and Democrats in the Senate, which is dangerous to the balance of power in the Senate.
Having 1 Santorum is worth more than 2-3 RINOs in the Senate.
