Maybe unrealistic, in view of recent statements, but I think your list ought to include Jeb Bush in potentiam. We want State-level executives, i.e. Governors, and above all non-lawyers: Both Reagan and Bush II fit that profile, George Allen does not. The latter seems okay, but his inevitable legalistic orientation plus log-rolling legislative time will have hardened deeper by 2008. Neither augurs well for any Chief Executive, and it is difficult to see how Allen could escape the malign influence of just this background. On the other hand, consider his probable opponent... MzBill? Another bleating twerp in Gore or Kerry mode? Maybe we should just bag competence and go for a halfway decent figure not actively self-destructive. Ah, well. At least Jacques Chirac's not running.
in view of recent statements ????????????????
