Thanks for clearing that up for me.
"Why do you think it is so wonderful to kill off Unions? The only protections we have had from giant corporations throughout history are labor unions."
What a stupid comment. the previous poster doesnt want to 'kill' unions, nor does the ballot proposition do so. The right to organize was there and will be there, its a complete strawman. It merely says that unions need to ask permission for the money that they funnel into politics... this is a basic 1st amendment and free speech issue.
But I gues you WANT to be forced to give money for things you dont believe in and not have the power to voice a different opinion.
Union monopolies are as bad as other monopolies.
"There was blatant lying done on the TV ads. This is a problem in my opinion, but I don't know how to deal with it. Apparently, it is OK to flat out lie on a political ad."
Well, it certainly works if the other side has no money to respond to the lies.
The silver lining is that the libs had to spend some money to buy a win on this. I think the pro side had little money.
PaleHorse, you are a few asterisks away from abuse.
Chill out. The right call is not to blame fellow freepers that voted, but the failure to inspire Republican turnout by the leaders.
We disagree there, but only by degree. I don't think that a vote for Schwarzenegger necessarily disqualified one from being a conservative. My bet is that not a few did so on the endorsement of people whom they respected and out of ignorance of where Arnold really stood. Most conservatives would rather believe a man until they've been burned once. Being basically honest, they are way too credulous.
You see a lot of that here. Then there are those who defend the Grovelnator refusing to admit that they were had. I think I'll call it, "Battered Republican Syndrome."
I'll put Arnold one level lower than that: He understands that many conservatives are prome to BRS and deliberately takes advantage of it. In that respect his cynicism in "supporting" Prop 73, thinking it enough to bring them to the polls and take the Prop 76-7 bait, shows how little he really thinks of them.
Agreed.
Oft times I'm blinded by the shear gullibility of those with enough interest in conservative politics to participate on this forum. By induction I project their characteristics to the Republican population at large. A more reasoned assertion is that the vast majority of Republicans are bewildered by the day to day shenanigans of the political class and oft times seek advice from "more savvy" compatriots, regardless of credentials.
I will add however that many voters felt they knew Schwarzenegger through the type casting he suffered. A distinct difference from a short, dumpy anchor baby, a political suit with a wondering eye, or a slender rascal who droned on in monotone with a mouth full of mush. Had I not a bit of knowledge, I would have voted for the guy with bulging muscles, carrying the shotgun, dressed in a leather coat, when real reform was needed.
Get Osama. What the hell??? Why is this guy still running around? Offer the Pakistani's $100 million for his head on a stick and tell them you will cut $100 million if they don't provide it by the end of July 2006.
Actually, I did. I am not going to expend further effort to reach the lower 10% in reading comprehension. You demonstrated an inability to properly read when you claimed I said something that I did not. Sorry, lets move on...nothing to see here.
Yea and the Russians were great in 44 also. Times change and nothing you listed has happened in the last 50 years. Besides I can't see how things like waiting 5 years, rather than two, to give teachers tenure is killing off anything. Then again Texas doesn't pay much attention to teachers unions. OH and BTW my wife of 30 years was Teacher of the Year in the fourth largest district (we have 1100 + districts) in the state and doesn't belong to a damn union.
So with "conservatives like me", huh? You don't know my political history and I can tell from your post that you think that a conservative is not supposed to think at all. We're not all lock-step morons like you.
Look "Mr Super-Republican", I voted FOR all of the Gov's initiatives in CA. The Problem with Arnold is that he has signed liberal bills that he should have vetoed and sent back to the legislature. That's not governing from the right, or don't you understand the difference. I don't think you do.
Glad I don't live in California......you deserve to be ignored and you deserve to live with the consequences
I'm glad you don't live in CA either. And I know that YOU will deserve whatever disasters happen to you personally or to your state, because of what you sanctimoniously wish upon others, you wish upon yourself.
Now go to hell.
