Mom arrested for allegedly offering her 4-year-old daughter for sex

MARTINEZ -- A 22-year-old Martinez woman is in police custody after allegedly having Internet correspondence with someone who solicited sex from her and her 4-year-old daughter in exchange for $500, police said.

Shannon Nicole Woods, of the 200 block of Thistle Circle, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of offering a minor under 16 for lewd and lascivious acts. She is being held on $50,000 bail, said Martinez police detective Sgt. Gary Peterson.

Police are reviewing videotapes and the contents of Woods' laptop while determining whether they have enough evidence to charge her with a crime.

Peterson said police received tips from a citizen and from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that Woods was prostituting her daughter.

She should lose permanent custody of her child. To offer a 4 year old child for sex, let alone a child of any age for that matter - is illegal, not to mention being sick and perverted conduct. I hope the b*tch rots in hell.

Sure seems like this sort of thing is growing exponentially. I agree with the poster who suggested a sojurn for mom in North Korea.

I'm not very familiar with Craigslist, other than that he is a liberal. Does the list have pedophile ads?

I liked that line by Gary Sinise's Mac Taylor to a vicious serial killer at the end of CSI:NY. (Last night's crossover conclusion.) "Should I feel sorry for you because your Daddy didn't cuddle you enough as a baby? You murdered 12 people. You rot in hell, you SOB."

All help would be greatly appreciated.

Couldn't you just cry for this little one? A mother is supposed to protect her children from anyone who would hurt them. This "mother" offers up her child for a price. I will say again, d@mn her!

The Bay area has finally become European.

They did get the kids out of the way in a very quick time frame. Europe could not of done it. They are too busy apologizing to the rioters.

I have physical reactions when I read stories like this - the mother's behavior literally makes me ill to my stomach. Then I get angry.

Me too! When babies, children, and little animals are concerned I am absolutely militant in believing that they should be protected from all forms of abuse an cruelty.

Moral Absolutes Ping.

Another really bad article. Some people claim pornography is harmless. The SCOTUS in the last year or two made the very bad decision that "virtual" child porn is legal, since no actual children were abused in making it. The fact that it increases the lust of pedophiles wasn't a problem for them.

The fact is, some things are wrong, evil, and should not be legal. This is an example of why. The thing that really amazes is me is how many people - even here on FR, who call themselves conservatives, don't get the connection.

Sex is very powerful. It is like fire. Just as fire can be used to warm you in the winter, cook your food, make useful things, it can also burn up buildings, maim, and kill. Sex is the same way. Used indiscriminately, it kills and ruins individuals, and when the critical mass of maimed individuals is reached, societies are destroyed.

Freepmail me if you want on/off this pinglist.

but there really DOES need to be a mechanism to take the child first, and prosecute later.

So your neighbor calls CPS on you and accuses you of abusing your children. You think the government should be able to seize them and put them in foster homes until you prove yourself innocent?

I for one don't wish to see a police state. Your name doesn't seem to fit your ideas.

No, not when there's nothing but a neighbor's accusation. But when there's any real evidence of serious abuse, I think it's necessary. What I would really advocate though, is a system where the child AND the parent(s) are removed TOGETHER to a supervised living situation (i.e. a group home along the lines of assisted living facilities for the elderly, where people have their own little mini-apartments, but there is staff on hand 24/7), until such time as the case has gone through a trial and the parent either absolved or convicted. This would be much fairer to parents who are ultimately found innocent, and much less traumatic to the child, regardless of whether the parent turns out to be innocent or guilty. Given how long our endless "due process" takes, and the incentive for a guilty parent and parent's attorney to strectch it out as long as possible, if the child is still with the parent, the potential harm to a child is just too great.

In this case, the mother "is in police custody after allegedly having Internet correspondence with someone who solicited sex from her and her 4-year-old daughter in exchange for $500", and the tips that she was prostituting her 4 year old daughter came from multiple sources, including the National Center for Missing and Exploiting Children. I don't want a police state either, but I also don't want a state where police leave 4 year old girls in the custody of parents who are reasonably believed to be renting them out for sex with strangers, while criminal court proceedings drag out for months.

The prosecution will need to provide proof that she was actually offering up her daughter for sex, rather than just talking about it.

Legally you may be right, but IMO it shouldn't be that way. If a parent is putting such "offers" out on the Internet or other public forum, with photos or other identifying information about the child, and providing enough info that a sicko reading it could actually locate the child, it really doesn't matter if the mother was just playing out an "online fantasy" and didn't really intend to let responding sickos have the child, because the sickos are still enticed and enabled to get to the child. It is endangering a child, when a parent publicly proposes that people have sex with him/her for a fee. The kind of man who would pay to rape a 4 year old girl isn't likely to be put off by mom saying "I was only kidding", after he turns up at their home eager for "action".

This might actually be a tough case for the prosecution.

I agree; if that was the only statement, it will unlikely lead to anything....I certainly hope what they have are more definitive statements, as any mother who even would make the remark to ponder such a suggestion would likely follow through, if not sooner, then later.
