Zucchet acquitted of conspiracy
UNION-TRIBUNE BREAKING NEWS TEAM 2:36 p.m. November 10, 2005
SAN DIEGO Former City Councilman Michael Zucchet was acquitted Thursday by a federal judge of conspiracy after a day and a half of legal arguments in the City Hall corruption trial, KGTV-Channel 10 reported. Zucchet and fellow former Councilman Ralph Inzunza were convicted July 18 of extortion, wire fraud conspiracy and wire fraud charges in a scheme to trade campaign contributions to try to repeal the law banning touching between dancers and patrons at strip clubs.
Lance Malone, a Las Vegas lobbyist, was convicted of multiple counts of extortion, wire fraud and wire fraud conspiracy in the case.
U.S. District Judge Jeffrey T. Miller made the ruling in a hearing on defense motions asking that he set aside the jury's verdict, acquit the defendants or grant a new trial.
Those motions were the subject of a daylong hearing Tuesday. The hearing was continuing Thursday afternoon.
Hi, just came in from dr. appt.
Isn't that the craps.
With an adult that is going to be in charge next month
some of those who are children on the council arn't
going to get to first base any longer.
And with a ret admiral who will be the CEO and who has a great background of cleaning up stuff things will be
changing.
Those two bozos need to be behind bars. A liberal judge,
what do you expect.
What a disappointment. They were so clearly guilty.
Why bother even having juries if federal judges will overrule the juries? It's a complete waste of their time; we may as well bypass them and just have the omnipotent judges decide everything.
Crooked Judge Warning ! ! !
Miller sentenced Malone to 36 months in prison and 36 months on supervised release.
Mayor-elect Sanders has released a statement saying this does not resolve the ethics issues at city hall.
Judge Miller:
Reporters on the scene misunderstood.
Waiting for the word to come down...
Can California go down the tubes ANY faster??? He'll probably run again and be elected.
He'll probably run again and be elected.
He said he is not running for anything again
and he couldn't get elected dogcatcher.
The city voted for a republican for mayor and
being the ret. chief of police, he isn't taking any crap.
The main thing, these two council people are out
and new are being elected .
I'll have to follow San Diego goings on through you! So Sanders is good, huh? Did Frye even run? I'm so out of the loop!
Sanders beat leather face Frye in the Mayor election Tues.
He is a mod. repo. and has plans regarding the financial
problems that can put things back in line.
Besides being the former chief of police, he also headed
the Red Cross here and cleaned that up.
He is bringing in a woman, Ronne Froman who is a ret. admiral as CEO. She did much the same on a major scale
for the Navy.
The two council guys regardless what the court says were put off the council long ago. There will be a run off election Jan. A repo. has a good chance at one of the seats.
San Diego voted in the majority for Arnold's props.
LA and Frisco are a lost cause.
How badly to Frye lose by?
Former Councilman Ralph Inzunza reportedly receives 21 months in corruption case"
At least some justice.
Also am glad business supported Sanders. Business creats jobs.
It is always the liberlas that gripe about business supporting a candidate.
I would rather have a moderate repo than a left wing lib
any day.
I am a conservative but I am also realistic whether here
or elsewhere, you arn't going to get a 100% conservative.
And the third party types some conservatives are suckered
into voting for are pimps for the left.
They gave us Carter and Clinton.
How badly to Frye lose by?
54% v 46%
Some didn't vote for him because he was not 100% conservative. Am glad enough had brains to keep
that far left loon out.
Uncanny, bd.
I'm PROUD of my native city. They elected Jerry Sanders mayor and NOT Donna Frye.
Sanders will not tolerate any crap. A moral adult is in charge.
Absolutely! Hubby used to be on SDPD at the end of Sander's term there.
