And since you are a cowboy at heart and all that, I know you'll like this song.

In large measure, his song is the reason we remember the Edmund Fitzgerald...

Another demonstration of Franklin's truism:

If you would not be forgotten
As soon as you are dead and rotten,
Either write things worthy reading,
Or do things worth the writing.

"The best stuff happens just before the thread snaps." That is also true of sailing. It sticks in the back of my mind when I'm on a screaming reach that the illegal amount of fun I'm having is going to end when a sheet or halyard blows.

I was in the Coast Guard in Detroit, and I had "duty" that next day, as Officer of the Day. The same storm was still blowing, when I got a call that some duck hunters were missing on Lake Erie. I sent a rescue boat out right away, and that case turned out to be one of the biggest search and rescue missions on the lower lakes up to that time.

The station, Coast Guard Station Belle Isle, is only about 1/2 mile from Dossin's Museum, and about 5 miles from the "Maritime Sailor's Cathedral".

I do like that song -- I've always liked that old "classic" country sound.

I love to hear the song, in Key West, at a sleazy bar beside the water, with a Rum Runner.

Another classic.

And that photo of Patsy looks like she could be a grown-up version of Darla, doesn't she? LOL.
