This thread is unbelievable.

So the guy's a PETA nut and getting a little long in the tooth (unlike most of his contemporaries, who are taking dirt baths).

But to deny the man as a music icon most likely without peer (living, at least) is ridiculous.

It's like saying, "what's the big deal with Babe Ruth and Ted Williams? We've got Paul Konerko!!!" (with all apologies to the Konerko family...I'm sure he's real good).

I must concur. I strongly! oppose PETA's position. Furthermore, I believe that their philosophy is unnatural and inhumane. Which does not automatically mean that I believe in treating animals cruelty. I do not.

Unfortunately, it is the attitude of citizens in industrialized nations that the elderly are less valuable, and youth is to be admired.

Which brings me, in a round about way, to Sir. McCartney. All the so-called POP stars of this generation; Brittany, Madonna, Christina, Beyonce, George Michael, Back Street Boys, etc., can't hold a candle to Paul McCartney's achievements and contributions to rock and roll history. He wrote some memorable songs, and was a very good musician.

Are there artists out there whom Paul McCartney can't hold a candle to? Absolutely, but that is not the topic of discussion.
