The KKK used to come to our door the night before elections -- the code phrase was "you are going to vote the right way, right?" Usually about 5 or 6 thugs with Democrat campaign crap and Confederate flags -- Dad always said yes, he was 100% Democrat. Everyone in the neighborhood knew what was going on, no one did much stop it. If you protested, there were consequences.
When dad closed the door I would ask him why he said that? All he would say was 'I don't want no trouble, I can vote how I want on election day'.

I was just thinking about how we used to have curtains for privacy on election day. A booth. Not any more. Wonder why they stopped that, and I wonder if that's taken advantage of by intimidators anywhere.
