Somebody please explain to me why Phelps is doing this. He is the anti-gay guy, isn't he? What interest does he have in military funerals?

Phelps is a professional left-wing bomb thrower pretending to be a Christian. His purpose, I think, is to make Christianity look bad with stunts like this one.

Hmm, I wonder what part the Mormon church has in all this. I've had my own less-than-pleasant experiences with Mormon mid and upper-level clergymen (specifically, when I got saved and joined a Southern Baptist church). I wonder what dog they have in this fight, if they have one at all.

I'm a Mormon. So was the fallen soldier and his family. They are holding his funeral at the church. Nothing sinister about that.

First, yes he's the anti-gay guy. His message is that our military deserves the casualties because we've lightened the prohibition on gays (don't ask/don't tell).

Actually, Phelps isn't a left-winger. He really is a ultra-extreme religious zealot, unfortuantely. He doesn't represent Baptists any more than he represents me or you...whihc is ot say, not at all. He's neither right- nor left-wing, but belongs in a wing all his own...namely the mental health wing.
