Justice Nigro says voters 'irrational' for ousting him (PA Supreme Court voter backlash!)
AP via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette ^ | Thursday, November 10, 2005

State Supreme Court Justice Russell M. Nigro, the first state-level judge ever denied another 10-year term, says he was the victim of "misguided" outrage over the pay-raise law the Legislature approved in July.

"It doesn't make any difference whether you're good, bad or indifferent -- you're gone," Nigro told The Philadelphia Inquirer. "What (voters) did was an irrational thing. They sent a misguided missile."

The election came on the heels of a dramatic, albeit stalled, effort in the Legislature to repeal a four-month-old pay raise law that has riled voters. With no other state-level officials up for election this year, citizen groups that opposed the pay raise trained their sights on defeating the justices as a way to register public disenchantment with state government.

"I don't know what they thought they accomplished by knocking me out of the box," he said.

Bwahahaha. These PA supreme court "justices" rubberstamped a blatantly unConstitutional pay raise for state legislators, judges and executive branch personnel. As a result, Nigro became the first-ever incumbent PA supreme court judge to be denied another 10-year term.

What an idiot he is. He should have simply said, "I'm proud of my record of service but I accept the vote of the People." End of discussion.

"I don't know what they thought they accomplished by knocking me out of the box," he said.

Eh, maybe that we don't want weasel-wording judges who uphold the obviously unconstitutional?

And that you serve at our pleasure and are not above the will of those who pay your salary?

According to the justice... make that ex-justice... the voters had a "temper tantrum".

How condescending.

Arrogant twit who thinks the law doesn't apply to him. Yep, sounds like a Democrat to me. Oh wait - he is one! PA voters did the right thing in firing him... it was the most rational thing they ever did in reminding the people in power that they work for the public not the other way around. The treasury of PA isn't the politicians and judges' private piggy bank. If they have a problem with obeying the law, they're to free to look for another line of work.

Nigro? ....how do you pronounce that?

It's pronounced Nye-grow. But it doesn't matter if it was Nig-grow or even Nee-grow - he's a DemocRAT from Philly and can do anything he wants (until now...)

From the article:
A second justice, Sandra Schultz Newman, a Republican, had collected 54 percent.
Sounds the outrage was specifically targetted at him, not 'misguided' as he claims. :=)

Maybe he should issue a decree from the bench declaring elections "unconstitutional".
