Because liberalism breeds dependency and strips personal responsibility. New Orleans is a perfect example of liberalism in action.....people did nothing to prepare or to try and evacuate and then complained when "service" was too slow for them.
Conservatism breeds independence and individualism that are the underpinnings of this nation.
I imagine their collective opinion regarding handguns would change if they were infested with armed gangs of looters after a natural disaster.
