It's been 4 years since 9/11. There's no change at the borders....they doors are open.

He and all the other elected officials have done crap about the borders.

On our last visit to Washington, DC in May, my boyfriend and I were saddened and appalled to see that it's an armed camp, showing our fear of the terrorists.

Access to our national monuments is restricted to a small number of ticket holders (regardless of citizenship) who must line up at 8:30 am each day to receive a ticket.

The Washington Monument is ringed by bunkers and a token presence of lightly-armed National Park Service officers to prevent non-ticketholders from entering (regardless of citizenship).

These "precautions" prevent ordinary Americans from freely visiting the most prominent places of our national heritage. Yet, our Canadian and Mexican borders are completely open and virtually unguarded.

It seems to me that we are doing this exactly backwards. We show our fear in the place we should be most defiant and our stupidity and naiveté in the places we should be most vigilant. This is a potentially deadly combination.

We allow almost anyone who isn't an OBVIOUS axe murderer (with that fact tattooed on his forehead) unfettered access in the form of a "student" visa without an extensive background check or even the requirement to report to law enforcement authorities occasionally while they are here.

This foolish Congresswoman should learn to keep her mouth SHUT. Her constituency's "right to know" or her desire to show them she's "in the know" is trivial and incredibly self-serving (I don't care what her party affiliation is) when compared to real national security - not the highly visible but ineffectual SHOW of "security" being perpetrated in Washington that keeps us out and let's them in.

Pardon me if I scoff the next time I hear "land of the free and home of the brave." We are neither.

The terrorists have already won because they've kept us in fear and willing to voluntarily sacrifice our own freedoms. Even 9/11 hasn't made us smart about welcoming the terrorist asp to our collective bosom. What's it going to take??? I weep for America and pray for wisdom in our leaders and ourselves.

This might sound silly, but given the crime that occurs in southern border towns, why don't the states take it upon themselves to seal their borders?
