Time to dust off
an idea I had suggested once before (below):
I support Dubya on almost all issues, but disagree with him completely on this one. [viz., militarizing the border: 9/27/04] The U.S. definitely needs a new way to combat this. I've had sketchy ideas of how this could work, and my ideas are something like this:
- Continuous electronic surveillance of our borders with a fleet of UAVs using our Predator-style technologies. Different types of modified Predators could be deployed to seek different things: infrared (heat), motion, etc.
- Establishment of a new military sector consisting of rapid deployment border enforcement personnel. This could be divided into four sectors (northern border, southern border, coastal, arctic); each would train differently to deal with the different terrains and climates.
- Establishment of high-tech military bases located at periodic intervals along the borders perhaps every 75 miles. (If there is an existing military base in the general area, a portion of it could be set aside for these new units.) The personnel from #2 would be based here and equipped with fast helicopters to allow for rapid deployment to incursion areas (monitored by #1).
- Staffing: personnel could be volunteers from all branches of the DoD, or recruited from the services to apply for training. Personnel in this billet could be rotated every 6 or 12 months, to get cross-training in the other areas of defending our borders.
Just an idea.

OK, so that's 3 out of how many thousands got in without getting caught? President Bush, Teddy Kennedy and John McCain want to give them amnesty, guest worker status, shamnesty, and they've got it on a fast track for approval before Congress takes a recess for the Holidays. They are giving terrorists amnesty! How stupid can they be? They think we'll be over it by the time they are back in session next January!!

This is where GWB falls flat on his face. There can be no excuse whatsoever for not securing our borders. Anything less than a concerted effort in the name of "commerce" is a disaster waiting to happen. I believe Vinny Phocks has to have a super 8 video of GWB doing a line of coke off the belly of a Tijuana stripper back in the late 70's that he's holding over GWB's head... (just kidding here)...WHY, oh WHY can't GWB take the security of our country SERIOUS? This makes his WOT, WOD, and Homeland insecurity Department a complete waste of tax payers money.

"Guest Terrorists"
Bush Admin-"Nothing to see here, move along.."
We need as many "Vigilantes" as we can get along the border it seems.
If terrorists who've come across our southern border manage to pull off an attack, I'd demand impeachment and conviction of every top admin official from the President on down.
Then I want them indicted and tried for treason.
Enough is enough.

Thanks for the post kristinn.
I live in northern Colorado. Greeley, Colorado is a destination spot for illegals. There are thousands of them here. Our school district flat out admits there is something like 692 illegal students enrolled.
My local police dept. has been ORDERED by the federal government to let all illegals go unless there is a felony arrest warrant. Heads should roll if we can get hold of this written order. Who in the federal government is telling our police to ignore the rule of law. WHO? I want the names of these officials! Maybe some FReepers who read this can help.
A couple of days ago I attended an event supporting Republican Marc Holzman, candidate for Colorado Governor. I told him my story of seeing a sheriff that had pulled over a van full of illegals, about ten of them. When I told him that they were ordered to let them go, Marc Holtzman got mad, visibly mad. He said to me "That is INSANITY!" Wow, a candidate willing to stand up against the illegals. He wants to get together a coalition of governors to call Washington on the carpet.

"Our main concern is, who's in our state? I mean this is a critical issue today. I mean they just arrested
down on the border, what a couple of weeks ago, three al Qaeda members who came across from Mexico

If this is true then you can honestly say.
